My dream school is Columbia but I have accepted that there is a great possibility that I will not get in. Due to this I also applied to schools in Florida due to the fact that it would be extremely cheap(mostly due to BrightFutures). I was accepted into both USF(my back up school) and FSU and was wondering which would be better. I one day hope to go to medical school and become a surgeon. Do to this I was told that it would be best to pick a major in the science field. I chose Biology.

Between USF and FSU which do you feel is better in the field?

A number of other threads have covered this comparison. You might try a search for them.

The bottom line is that Florida State is a much stronger overall university than USF as rated by any number of different rating services. In Biological Sciences, where I can find a direct comparison particular to your question, it looks like this.

2006 US News - Graduate rating - Biological Sciences:
FSU 92 (nationally)
U Miami 99
USF 143

You should note than USF has a better rated medical school at this time. FSU's COM is quite new and I think has just graduated their second class of MDs. Whether attending USF gets you into USF Med easier than coming in with a degree from a stronger academic university...well, I'd doubt it.

FSU was recently rated #16 nationally as a Kiplinger "best value" in a public university, so that may give you an idea how expenses go.

Which school has a better medical school at this time doesn't really matter since I will have to apply to either med. school regardless. I agree with you that getting into UCFs med school wouldn't be easier by simply me going there over me coming from a school that is overall better academically.

The one thing that USF has over FSU, it's a decent med school. For undergrad, FSU is better across the board. For grad school, not including med school, FSU is also better. Overall, FSU is the better and more reputable university.

Being accepted to college involves lots of emotions, including anxiety and doubt about a substantially new way of life. If this happens to describe you, fear not. It's perfectly normal to feel this way. As your actual move date comes closer your mood may change many times in all sorts of directions...all quite normal.

One thing to look forward to...the social and sports scene at FSU is a lot of fun and very different from high school. With the new football coaches Bobby Bowden hired this year expect lots of excitement at the games and on campus.

Yeah, FSU is the stronger academic school. I particurarly enjoyed shutting out FSU this year AT FSU. But ACC athletics are a LOT of fun. Good luck!

The reason im not excited to go is because FSU was not and still isn't my first choice. In florida my main choice was UF with FSU and USF simply being backups.

UF did not work out and I am still upset about that especially after seeing some of the people who did get in and others you didn't like myself.

Over all of these schools though Columbia is my main choice as is in fact my dream school. While it is not good to have this mindset, I have already accepted that I will probably not be accepted there. I mean if UF didnt take me, why would a school like Columbia take me.

In other words there is a 95% chance that I will be going to FSU. Since it wasn't my first choice, even here in Florida, I am not too happy about going there. To those that go there? Do you think I will be happy both academically and socially?
