USF vs UCF

I find hilarious how some people actually think UCF is more prestigious than USF.

USF has a very reputable medical school (the toughest for admission in the state of Florida ahead of UF) and its Big East peers are prestigious public flagship institutions like Pitt, Rutgers, UConn, and Cincinnati.

Nobody even knows UCF outside of Florida. UCF only recently made to Tier 3 status (USF has been Tier 3 for a long time and it's soon to be taking FSU spot as Tier 2). UCF peers are CUSA commuter schools like U of H, UTEP, UAB, ECU, Memphis, USM.

At USF you can get the complete college experience with the Big East (a BCS conference), at UCF you'll be watching CUSA (which USF left to open up the spot for UCF).

In terms of location, USF in in Tampa Bay, a tourist destination near Clearwater, St. Pete, etc... UCF is in Orlando, landlocked, with nothing to do besides Disney.

“USF has a very reputable medical school”

This might be true, but the people that think UCF is more prestigious are probably referring to the undergraduate school not the med school.

“the toughest for admission in the state of Florida ahead of UF”

Nope. Please refer to the 2008-2009 MSAR book or AAMC.org.

“Nobody even knows UCF outside of Florida”

I could say the same thing about USF, but it doesnt make it true.

“UCF is in Orlando, landlocked, with nothing to do besides Disney.”

You forgot Seaworld, Universal, Magic Kindom, Animal Kingdom, Islands of Adventure, Wonder Works, Wet n’wild, Aquatica, Epcot, Skull Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. USF is Tampa with nothing to do besides Busch Gardens. Orlando contains more than 5 malls one of which has a surf park, a basketball team in the eastern conference finals, over 5000 dining locations, annual central florida fair, and is located 40 minutes from Cocoa Beach.

not to mention the nicer living facilities at UCF, the state of the art campus and the “city beautiful” Orlando (it really is!), with much more opportunity for internships, employment and a location that accesses beach areas from every direction. AWESOME! :-)

■■■■■ thread. This poster has posted this same post multiple times.

[]USF plays in the Big East; let me know when they compete in the Big East.
[]Reputable Medical school? It’s not better than UF as someone pointed out. Why didn’t you mention UCF’s reputable engineering school?
[]FSU is tier one
[]Tampa is better than Orlando; if you’re a stripper. There are more strip clubs than hospitals in fact. Guess that works out nicely for USF grads.
[]USF’s campus looks like a landfill. UCF’s campus is arguably the best in the state.
[]People outside of Florida have heard of USF; unfortunately, they’re thinking of the University of San Francisco
[li]UCF’s athletic facilities are CONSIDERABLY better than USF’s (where’s your stadium located?) The teams are up and coming.[/li][/ul]
Thanks for playing

Lol, USF is easily a powerhouse in the Big East.

Because USF has as much of reputable engineering school as UCF.

FSU is by no means tier 1. Tier 1 are tipically the top 50 schools. FSU is 100.

Orlando is landlocked. Tampa is on a beautiful bay.

UCF campus is not much nicer than USF and definitely not as nice as UF, UM and FSU. Nice try.

Nobody even knows what UCF is. USF is that newer BCS school in Florida which has consistently ranked ahead of FSU and UM lately.

Facilities? Nice try…stick to USF old conference (CUSA) and commuter schools like U of H while USF plays with the big boys.

Lol, so where are the Tier 2 since USNews doesn’t list them but actually groups them along T1?

To think FSU is on the level of Public Ivys is a funny joke.

Also interesting to notice how for Business Undergrad, both FSU and UCF are unranked, while FIU and USF squeeze in the top 100 nationwide.

[Business School Rankings and Profiles: EMBA, Executive Education, MBA, Part-time MBA, Distance MBA](<a href=“Bloomberg Businessweek - Bloomberg”>Bloomberg Businessweek - Bloomberg)

No clue what you’re problem is but the college experience is what YOU make of it. Both UCF and USF are great schools with modern facilities and offer a lot to their students. Both schools have really nice campuses with great sports facilities.

A lot of your points don’t even make sense. You’re ragging on UCF for just recently becoming Tier 3 while bragging about being in the Big East while USF just recently became a part of that division. Which by the way, although USF has a good football team they have just recently started having success and you can’t really say that about USF’s other sports teams so while they are good they are NOT a powerhouse by any means. And Orlando being landlocked? You’d swear we’re in Kansas or something. The beach is not that far from Orlando on either side and there are plenty of lakes and rivers where ever you look. I’m from Miami and have had the beach close by all my life so I could really care less if the beach is near UCF. Just learn to appreciate your school for what it does have and stop feeling so insecure about what others say about it by defending it with points that make no sense and are purely your opinion.

FIU: 98
USF: 101

Surely you don’t want to claim FIU is better than USF. Try comparing overall rankings; not just individual colleges where USF excels. FSU is nationally ranked (102); USF is not.

UCF and USF are about on par with each other in all honesty. Read Marlin’s post though. He nails it right on the head.

FSU is ranked in the “Tier 1” category. If you have a problem with that, take it up with
US News.

To think that USF is on the level of FSU is a funny joke.

“USF has a very reputable medical school (the toughest for admission in the state of Florida ahead of UF)”

You can’t even compare USF’s med school to that of UCF because it hasn’t even opened yet. I can assume that you don’t know anything about the admissions for UCF’s med school because they only accepted 40 students out of over 40,000 applicants. That’s about 1 out of 1,000. I’m sure UF’s or USF’s admittance rate is as low as UCF’s rate.

^One time thing for UCF med. Don’t get carried away. A free allopathic education attracts attention.

Marlin97, you should educate yourself about USF sports if you are going to make a point.

This year:

Women’s Basketball NIT Champion
Men’s Soccer Big East Champion
Men’s Tennis Big East Champion

I would call that a powerhouse.

In all fairness, I’ll give you that UCF ranks 14 nationwide in the Princeton Review “Students Study the Least” Rankings:

[University of Central Florida](<a href=“University of Central Florida - The Princeton Review College Rankings & Reviews”>University of Central Florida - The Princeton Review College Rankings & Reviews)

You look at these rankings as if they are 100% correct. Princeton Review has no way to tell who studies and who doesn’t. UF is #1 on that list and FSU is #10… actually out of the 20 schools on the list, 5 are in Florida. So does that mean USF is better, because it is not in any rankings at all? Of course not.

For me personally, I chose UCF because of the location and their great Computer Science and honors program. I also got into UF and USF, but ultimately UCF felt right for me. Everyone picks a college based on their own personal preferences.

It is pointless to compare schools. There is no way to examine whether UCF or USF is better. There are too many factors to consider. Rankings that sites post are really just their opinion, because they include their own factors. In order to determine the right college for you, you need to decide what is important in a college, for you, and no one else.

lol. the TRUE college experience at USF…

watching men’s tennis.

You said that UCF was “Rank 14 at studying the least”

Well, “Princeton Review surveyed just over 120,000 students at the 368 schools”

so thats 300 students per school and .006% of the students at ucf.

USF is big time BCS football. Playing FSU and Miami this year. UCF is playing Cougar High.

Yes because we are definitely not playing Miami either… and Texas is actually a flag football team

“Playing FSU and Miami this year”

playing is not the same as winning.

Im curious… what else does USF have that makes it better than UCF? UCF obviously has a better location.
