Hey Guys,
So I've applied to USF and I was wondering if i would get in with these scores and GPA,
Background: I live overseas (Germany due to Military) attended a German school for 8 years, which is partially also the reason why my SAT scores weren't that significant.

Your SAT scores may not meet USF’s minimum requirements:

Minimum USF Admissions Requirements–
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements for admission to the State University System of Florida, applicants must meet all of the admission criteria below to be offered regular admission to USF as a freshman or lower-level transfer.
English = 4 (3 with substantial writing)
Math* = 3 (Algebra I or above)
Natural Science = 3 (2 with substantial labs)
Social Science = 3
Foreign Language = 2 (in same language)
Academic Electives = 3
Postsecondary GPA >= 2.50
SAT - Critical Reading >= 460 or ACT - Reading >=18
SAT - Math >= 460 or ACT - Math >= 19
SAT - Writing >= 440 or ACT - English/Writing >= 18

ohitzdom, If you picked up German language skills while in Germany–maybe take the CLEP test for German to get college credits. Too, Tampa is a big military town with McDill Air Base, maybe being a military family might help you with admissions. Good Luck

SAT’s don’t prove anything, it’s ridiculous…
so basically what you are saying if you don’t have a certain score on your SAT’s they don’t even look at your application? Even if you have AP classes with good grades and several recommendations stating your involvement with the community… etc.
But that CLEP idea sounds good, I took AP German my freshman year and passed it with a 5 and on top of that i received this cord I’m allowed to wear during graduation. =D
Is it possible for them to deffer me, I registered for the May 1st SAT’s (taking SAT’s in Germany is a pain)

Are you seeking admission for Fall or Summer 2010–I think the deadline for getting app in is March 1st–so time is tight for you. Keep in mind that colleges like USF have “unwritten rules” too that can give them some flexibility for admissions. Maybe have your school guidance counselor phone USF admissions to see what can be done to get you in. Being in Germany 8 years with a military family sort of qualifies you as a unique kind of student that USF might give special consideration to. Again, good luck.

Actually being in Germany 18 years
But yea, I’ll keep you posted on what happened!
If I have to I’ll just smack the admissions director xD just kidding.
Did you get accepted into any colleges yet?

That’s Awesome!!
Do you think you could you get some specific information for me regarding admission from the admission office, and if they take it in consideration that I’m part german.
I also applied for the Summer term, I heard that raises my chances of admission also.

Don’t you sleep in Germany? It’s around 5:30 in the morning in Germany now. USF’s admission office is open Monday (yes, President’s Day) at 8:00 EST–you need to contact them. I can’t help you, they can. Here’s their contact info, you need to get with them:

Thanks GoldenDomer
I applied to UCF already, the vice director of admission sent me an e-mail on friday saying they would like to have a transcript of this year to see how I’m doing my senior year before they will make a final decision:

Hi Dominique,

Can your school send us an updated transcript so we can see how you are
doing in your senior year so far? We would like to see that before we
make the final decision. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Assistant Director
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
University of Central Florida

Hey im from NY, i go to a very strong academic international school and I want to know what my chances are of getting in especially because I’m out of state. My GPA is around a 3.2, ACT 22 but I take 4 languages, I’m the IB program, I’ve also been captain of 3 varsity ports, a ot of community service and strong envolvement in school. Can anyone give me some odds? thx

hey lizard… I see that your a second yr student in USF, so i was wondering if i could get some info.

Basically, i’m an intl undergrad and I’ve not only been accepted to USF but also got into honors college alongside an annual scholarship that covers almost 40% of my fees. Got acceptance from few others Univs too… so i’m weighing the pros and cons before i decide.

Honestly speaking, are the academics at USF really good? I’m focussed on the academics omre than partying and whatnot, so i’d be glad if you gave me some insight. Also, is housing and atmosphere good too?

Singapore, I’m sold on USF for academics, I wouldn’t be attending USF if it didn’t have excellent programs. USF offers solid academics in many, many fields of study for serious students who want to advance and succeed. USF–despite being a public state university with mostly Florida students–is still a diverse, cosmopolitan research university with students and faculty from all over the world. About 5200 students live on campus in modern dorms and apartments. About 15,000 students live in private apartments and housing near the campus–the balance of students commute. The USF campus is filled with activities for every interest, and the Tampa, Florida metropolitan area is full of terrific places and activities to explore. Here’s some video of the campus (it was prepared for the USF athletic dept–but it still has a lot of general information about USF–I’m between classes and didn’t have anything else at my fingertips to share with you right now): http://www.gousfbulls.com/fls/7700/Interactive_Guides/Track/01-Woolard-Intro.html

So all my stuff is sent in, now its just a matter of waiting!
I called the admissions office and asked her how the SAT and the GPA is weighted and they said it goes half-half, but if they see a lot of extracurricular activities and good recommendations I have good chances… soo stoked!

Lizard- if i do get in you should like help me out a bit when I get there haha.
