One of the choices on the UNC Application is this:

"If you have written an essay for another school's application that you really like, feel free to use it as your short or longer essay for us. Please be sure to tell us (a) what essay you are answering and (b) why you think this essay represents you well (your explanation will not be included in the essay word count)."

Has anyone used a different essay than one of the choices provided by UNC? I am thinking of using my Common App essay, which I wrote about being a twin.

Does anyone have an opinion on this? If it is better or worse to choose your own prompt, basically.

I also used an essay from my Park app for the longer essay. I don’t think they mind if you didn’t choose their prompts… you won’t look lazy if it’s a great essay.

Yeah i used an essay from a common app prompt. the point of an application essay is to see your personality (for bigger schools it serves as an interview, since they can’t conduct one with everyone) and writing skill, so i don’t think they care about what prompt you choose.
