Using a US Associates in the UK?

Ok, now I understand that the UK does not have an associates program, and that their schooling is more focused in their 'major'. But, would having an associates degree give me a better chance of getting into a top UK University? Even if I have to start from the ground up. My problem was, despite being fairly intelligent, I did a lot of slacking off in highschool. It wasn't until after I graduated that I hated myself for it. I didn't do bad, I just did average,l but knew I could do better. I had a test average of 109% but homework one of around 30%. Ended up being C+ student.
Anyway, I went to my local college and got an associates degree focused in Business. I doubt I could get into something such as Oxford or Cambridge, but maybe something else? I am not entire sure on the routines of Uk schools. I know they generally can accept people at their own discretion. Has anyone here taken their associates overseas? Thanks!!!
