Using AA degree as if it was a HS diploma

I'm nearing completion of my AA. It will be finished this fall and I realized towards the end of last year that going for this degree was a mistake. I want to major in CS and none of my classes really apply towards that. I got a well rounded liberal art education, but I know I'd have to start as a freshman in a 4 yr college.

Does anyone know if I could use a transferable AA to not start as a junior, but as a freshman instead? If yes, would it be considered a good or bad thing? I could use the excuse that I was a homeschooled student and started college at the age 16 with no direction. My GPA will only be around a 3.5 though.

By the way, my dream schools are WUSTL, CMU, and WSU. :)

Ok, did you take the classes as a dual credit student or as a regular student?? My sons are homeschooled. One will probably have close to an AA when he graduates but will still enter as a freshman. My oldest is going to major in computer science and all of those hours from cc and AP are helping him:

6 hours in Spanish
6 hours in American History
3 hours in government
6 hours in English
8 hours in Chemistry
8 hours in Physics
I don’t think he will take his Clac credit

So he won’t have many electives left. You do realize that most of those hours in the AA will go toward your CS degree, right?

Now this may all be a mute point because if you enrolled as a regular student then you will be a junior transfer. However, lots of people do dual enrollment and graduate with a high school and AA degree and go in as a freshman.

I don’t see why you have to start as a freshman. A CS degree usually has some Gen Ed req’ts…history, frosh English, etc…and you’ll have those done.

It sounds like you may have to do 3 more years. Be aware though, some schools won’t give 3 years of aid to transfers…some will only give 2.
