Hi everyone! I took the AP exam for Lang & Comp and passed with a 4. I know I can get exempt from expos 101 my freshman year. I was wondering, to all current Rutgers students, is it worth it to skip out of expos 101? Also, if I am placed out of expos 101, then do I go to writing 102 or something? Would that class be harder than expos 101?

Yes you can skip, yes you should skip expos is a crap class. Writing classes don’t really get harder in the classical sense of the word, some require more effort though

Expos is a tough class, but it does teach you how to write. That being said, most people would gladly opt out of it. It involves A LOT of writing and time. My son found it helpful to have the Expos background when writing papers later in other classes. It becomes second nature to explain yourself properly.

The Expos 2 requirement is not similar at all. Here is the writing intensive approved list for Expos 2 [Writing Requirement](<a href=“Error Page”>Error Page)

As you see, there are a lot of classes to choose from. Some popular Expos 2 choices are Introduction to Myth, Global East Asia, and most of the English: Composition and Writing choices. Once you are enrolled in Rutgers, you cannot take your Expos 2 choice outside of Rutgers.

The reason why expos usally takes a person’s GPA and brings it down to the very bottom of the trench is because it’s a time consuming course. Because of this one course, students usually don’t find enough time to study for other classes. But this depends on your major.

I didn’t have to take Expos because as soon as I heard this, I decided to AP out of it. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in college so far.

It’s a lot of busy work and probably won’t improve your writing skills. I think Exposition and Argument, or “expos 2,” comes next. A lot of people consider Expos 101 to be the worst.

I disagree that it won’t improve one’s writing skills, but I do agree that it takes a lot of time, and if someone can opt out of it, I don’t blame them.
