I'm currently a Junior in high school and I'm looking at Northeastern and it looks really really nice. Especially the PharmD program that they have.

Before you read anything else, have this open in another tab or window: http://www.northeastern.edu/bouve/undergrad/pdf/PharmD_12_13.pdf

By the end of my junior/senior year, I plan to get 4 or 5s on:
AP English
AP Chem (Junior)
AP Bio
AP US Government and Politics (Junior)
AP Psychology (Junior)
AP Statistics
AP Calculus BC
AP Statistics

With five APs next year, and three this year, I would only have two classes Freshman year (College: An Introduction and Profession Pharm)

I'm currently in Honors Anatomy and Physiology so I feel like I would have some sort of advantage when it comes to Human Physiology I.

So, if I do as well as I think I will, would it be smart to skip the first year altogether and go into the second year?

Pretty much, how does your second year compare to your first year in terms of rigor, stress, studying, etc?

Yeah you’ll get out of some classes, but you don’t just “go into the second year”. For example, you won’t be able to do your first co-op after your freshman year- university rules.

Lots of PharmD majors come in with credit. It won’t be uncommon to take classes a little earlier. Chem is a pretty common one.

Well, as mentioned above, I’ll only have “College: An Introduction” and “Profession Pharm” left to take as a freshman.

And, not having Co-op after freshman year isn’t that bad, I’ll just do it later in my college career.

are you planning taking a four-year or five-year program? (assuming you don’t “skip” freshman year)

thanks for the reply upcomingsenior, I noticed you got accepted at NU from other treads
Well, since it’s a 6 year program and co op is 1 year, I would essentially only take 4 years of classes. (weird huh?)
But as to your question I’m kind of confused. i wasn’t aware there was a 4 year program or a 5 year program…

chance please?

The four and five year programs are for normal students only, and some majors can’t yet be completed in four years even with AP credit. PharmD is strictly 6 years, you’d just have more electives.

My point was that you take some classes earlier than absolutely required, but it’s not uncommon. The two classes you have left are required freshman courses and can’t be moved. According to the registrar, you’ll be a freshman- meaning that even if you come in with a billion credits, you still can’t get into a class like an honors seminar that doesn’t allow freshman. Same with co-op, it’s required for PharmD but you won’t be able to make the co-op schedule earlier no matter how much credit you have.

What exactly is a honors seminar? Could you elaborate?

sorry i didnt see you were doing pharmacy. the 4/5 is for other majors. like im doing a 5 year

I plan to do the same thing as choppergunner and AP out of most of the freshman courses. However, if I move up most of the sophomore courses into the freshman year at NEU, is it possible to take a break during sophomore year and save at least a semester’s worth of tuition?

Take a break? Like… leave school for a semester?.. Well… You CAN. It’s not like they chain you to the desk or anything. But PharmD is a very tough and competitive program and if you left, I personally think there’s a good chance they’d remove you from the program because you clearly don’t want it as badly as other people do who got out of classes but stayed anyway.

If you’re not PharmD, then sure you can leave but you sometimes need a good reason depending on how long you’ll be gone. People skip out on summer classes all the time and no one cares, but it might be different for a full fall or spring semester. Also if you took off fall soph year, you can’t do co-op in the spring/summer1. Plus, taking off a full semester could hurt your progression, since often classes are only offered one or two times a year- so you’d have to make sure you can just take them the following semester because it’s not for certain you can. I don’t see the point in doing it at all unless you have a medical or family emergency. If you really want time off, skip out on a summer session (if you have room in your schedule), or graduate a semester early.

But I’m pretty sure PharmD won’t let you anyway. Call them and ask, but I have NEVER heard of someone doing that except for extreme medical reasons.
