Using Common App for recommendation Letters

I was wondering whether it would cause any disadvantages for the students if they decide to use common app recommondation letters, instead of each school form. If they apply to 7-8 different schools, I assume teachers will not spend that much time filling out each form, so I am thinking I'd better use one form, one form for English teacher and one form for math teacher.

I would appreciate to get feedback from any previous applicants.

Not only do I think it will not disadvantage a student to do this, I think it is expected that the teachers use a common form and photocopy them for different schools. Asking a teacher to fill out multiply forms for different schools is just unreasonable.

Great!
My kids just brought one common rec form this morning, so it is all good :)

Some teachers are very savvy users of technology. You could send them this URL: [The Association of Boarding Schools - TABS](http://www.boardingschools.com/how-to-apply/application.aspx). From that page, they can download the appropriate rec form.

Even if they prefer to use the online form, you should supply them with stamped and addressed envelopes to send the recs directly to the schools. (Some school counselors prefer to collect all materials, and send them to the BS directly.)

If you mail anything, check the postage! If schools give you stamped envelopes, check the postage before dropping it in the mail! Last year, we found some pre-stamped envelopes did not have enough postage.

The Association of Boarding School’s application page have good directions to follow:

Keep track of deadlines. Most schools will send you a note when your application is complete. Some will have online portals for applicants. You can also call, to check up on the status of your application. If it’s two weeks before the deadline, and the school hasn’t received your recommendations, politely remind your teachers of the deadline. It might be sitting in the admissions office in a pile of unopened applications, or it might have been misfiled, or lost in the mail. Or, your teacher may have lost track of the deadline.

It’s very helpful if you keep a spreadsheet, to keep track of the various parts of the application. The admissions committee needs the complete application to reach its decision.

another tip:

Be kind to your teachers and don’t make them lick that icky glue on cheap envelopes. Get the kind with the peel away adhesive.

Opps, i missed the envelope part…
