Using "I" in a personal essay.

Does it count against me if I use "I" too much in a commonapp personal essay? I mean I don't know any other way to express my experiences without using "I" so much.

Thank you

Use French? moi! Lol, I guess using I too redundantly can make your essay seem a bit bland, but what other word could you replace it with? Maybe you could try writing sentences with “I” in it a bit differently, but you have to make sure your changed sentences are still concise and coherent.

This is college… replace every “I” with “The entity known by lesser beings as [name]”.

“I” will unavoidably be repeated quite a bit in personal essays; that’s fine. However, you certainly don’t want to start all your sentences with “I”: take advantage of the variety of sentence options.
