using laptops for homework

hi i know there are tons of laptop threads out there but none of them really addressed one topic i've been wondering about.

i'm a high school student right now and i'm on my computer a lot for research, instant messaging, and homework. i currently have a 15" flat panel display for a desktop but i want a laptop to take with me for college. i want a 13" macbook but my only concern is that my eyes will get tired from staring at a smaller screen that is gonna be sitting MUCH closer to my eyes than my desktop monitor is.

so, for those of you who are already using a 13" laptop in college, how difficult is the adjustment? should i invest in an external display and a separate keyboard?

i haven't had any problem at all. i don't think you'll notice the difference unless you think about it too much.

the macbook 13" is a widescreen. there should not be any problems.

A macbook? That's a good idea. Just got one and it should be delivered in a day or two. I'lll post how it works out for me on here if u want. Its gonna be sweet methinks...

yea can you please post how it works out for you? and also leave a comment on how you like the new keyboard.

and a lot of ppl have been saying that the macbook can get really hot. do you think apple's working on fixing this problem by maybe next year?

yeah... guys shouldn't work with the mac book on their lap... it can cause reproductive damages...

an easy way to prevent the eye strain is to put your laptop right on your desk where your old monitor was

After a lifetime of PC-use and mac-scorn, I bought a macbook two months ago. I have used it almost every day since then and haven't found the screen to be difficult to read from at all. From what I've read, the macbook hasn't had nearly as many heating problems as the macbook pro, which suffered from improperly-applied heating paste inside the machine. My computer gets pretty warm, but not uncomfortably so, and it is often in contact with my legs for hours at a time.
