Using LSAT to practice for SAT

So I am currently studying for the LSAT and my younger sister is about to start studying for the SAT. So would it be beneficial for my younger sister to do some of my older LSAT reading comprehension books for her SAT score? According to my memory of the SAT reading section, they seem pretty similar. My parents are trying to save some money and I have either lost or sold my old SAT books already.

Yes, I’d advise her to do so.

I suppose it could be useful for basic reading comprehension, but the SAT has been redesigned so I don’t know how helpful that would actually be. The Khan Academy is offering free prep materials: https://www.khanacademy.org/test-prep/new-sat

I would not use LSAT reading comprehension for rSAT. The type and level of material are very different. LSAT passages have rigorous complex logic. The questions and answer choices also require much more logical analysis than you will find on the rSAT. The LSAT is meant for lawyers. The rSAT passages are based on the Common Core. Just consider that the most difficult passage on the October PSAT was a speech by Frederick Douglas with a lot of 19th century Southern preacher rhetoric. You are not going to find anything like that on the LSAT.

The closest thing to rSAT I have found is old SAT CR (long passages only).

this person used LSAT material and it worked for him! … http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1637676-how-i-raised-my-sat-score-by-790-points-my-story-p1.html

LSATs are helpful, sure, but GREs are probably even more helpful.

You guys are sooooo helpful!

The person who wrote this story says FIRST he or she went through the Blue Book and got to CR 770 untimed. It’s not as though a person with CR 480 started reading LSAT passages right off the bat. LSAT would be an exercise in frustration for someone who is not already reading at a high level.

The linked story also includes this suggestion as part of the recipe for success:

“-Try taking the SAT on a Sunday. For religious convictions I took the SATs on Sundays however, if you can take it on Sundays do that. The reason is that the SATs are always recycled on Sundays as they sometimes are for internationals. Since they recycle 'em, the words for direct hits–which are based on previous SATs-tend to show up more often. On one of my SATs, I had a blue book question.”

I’d say that’s a winning recipe.

My favorite graduate level resource to take things to the next level for W is the Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction.
It doesn’t have the new kind of SAT W questions, but it is great for grammar.
