Using NMC College Plan Reporting Service

Hey everyone,

I received a letter from the NMSC a few days ago, so I'm incredibly excited that I'm one of the 50,000 students who qualified for the National Merit Scholarships. :D

However, I'm in a bit of dilemma towards which schools to list. I've been reading the boards for a few days now trying to get some research. Apparently, the reporting service is only of real use to schools which actually give out National Merit Scholarships, even if we know if we only qualified.

I was wondering if it was any use to placing Rice on one of the schools. I've read some threads that say Rice gave a fee waiver for the $60 application if they were named. Is this true?

Rice is already one of my perfect matches for colleges, so I'm hoping this shows some demonstrated interest.

A few years ago, it was the case that they gave waivers to those who listed Rice as their top choice. I can’t say for sure if that’s still in effect.

it can’t really hurt you to put it down as one of the three (i think there are three, if i remember correctly) unless you have other schools that you would rather put.

to my knowledge, basically nothing comes of these initial choices besides the possible fee waver to which you alluded. you’ll get more forms later on which you’ll put your more official top choice.
