hey for the common application can you just pick one topic and send the same essays to multiple colleges? will that matter at all

for the common app, you write one essay and a mini essay that goes out to multiple colleges. So, that's just one topic for that. But, you might have specific college supplements to do as well that only go out to that one college. And those can't ALL be the same unless you're really lucky.

yea hey does anyone have any non BS advice for writing a great college essay?

non-BS?

Just think of something unique to you and write the best narrative you've ever written in the exact manner you'd tell it to someone if you were talking (- the curses and the likes/ums/whatevers)

i think his question (and mine) is:

can you have an single essay for your commonapp
and use a different essay multiple times for the different supplements?

Yes, for the common app. Though you still have to do a mini-essay about an activity.

You can do it. But, you'll probably need to rework/adapt it to each individual prompt. I was able to do that. But, for about half of the supplements, I had to write from scratch. Sometimes, it's far too difficult to make your essay fit their prompt whether it's due to the topic or space. The effort used to rework it may be even more than starting from scratch...

oh i see. that's what i'm planning right now.

out of 9 college supplements, I have an essay (different than the one i'm using for the common app prompt) that can be applied to 6-7 of the prompts. So i'll basically use that essay, maybe add/substract some stuff, for those prompts.
