For ex, the person who was kind enough to post his college acceptance-gaining essays to penn and uchicago

what if someone takes that essay and uses it at lets say Cornell

personally im a strong writer with some interesting stories to tell but im saying do you think a lot of people do that and do people get caught?

Any smart person wouldn't even think about it because it doesn't reveal their voice and jeopardizes their chances. Remember that adcoms are extremely skilled at reading applications--particularly the essay section. This means that they know how to determine the authenticity of an essay just by its voice. So if some person actually took the chance and copied, he/she would most likely get caught.

oh hai der guise. wats going on in dis hear thread?

EDIT: i also dont give a **** if you copy b/c hundreds of essays are circulated via PM in this forum so i mean im sure it happens. also its flattering to me b/c my ego is huge.

forti-i was wondering what u mean by they could tell if u stole it just by the voice. how would they know what kind of 'voice' u even have? jw :p

they cant if you copy all of my essays and work well at disguising it. i mean i dont care. COPY MY ESSAYS I DARE YOU. there are more factors. if you dont have teh recs/grades/stats to get in you probably wont without a hook. my essays are good enough to get u in by themselves IMO.

I mean, colleges won't necessarily be able to tell that you copied someone's admissions essay, especially if the essay was never used at that particular college.

But if you ever get caught you run the chance of being kicked out of your college, or having your degree invalidated once you graduate. So it's not smart to do it.

You might get caught, you might not get caught--the risk is pretty serious though. Plus someone from '10 using an '09 essay (that was accepted) for the same schools would be especially stupid. The chances of the same admissions officer reading both essays don't seem that slim so...

What's the point of just getting into a certain college? That specific individual who would copy an essay is only playing with their own future. Essays are meant to reveal who you are, not to "showcase" your copy and paste skills...
