I’m looking to transfer to UCD in fall 2020 with the TAG program. I’m a part of MESA at my CC and I talked to the advisor and she said not to limit myself to just one college. The problem is I only want to go to a UC and UCD is the only UC with a forensic chemistry major option. If I were to apply to a CSU I would need to take a biology course that I don’t have time to take, as it doesn’t fit my schedule. I have a 3.72 GPA overall and a 3.66 GPA in my overall UC transferable courses. What are the chances that my TAG will be denied? I’m going to talk to a counselor next week but in the meantime I want some answers to put me at ease.
Whether or not your tag will be accepted is based on if you meet the minimum qualifications, generally a 3.2gpa and all required coursework completed.
I would read through the tag-matrix to make sure you can complete all the requirements on time.

And the UC Davis TAG page has a lot of good information on the process. https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/undergraduate/transfer/transfer-admission-guarantee/
Generally peoples TAGs get accepted if the minimum GPA is completed, but I would also reach out to a UC Davis rep to go over your course plan to ensure you hit all the marks.
IMHO I would apply to other schools as well if you are certain you want to be transferring next year, as applying to only one school can limit your options if something changes in your plan. EX: dropping a planned course in spring can void a TAG.
I also made it to the Dean’s List twice and by the time I apply, I’ll have 2 associates degrees. Like I said, I don’t want to go to the other colleges since they’re not UCs.
@Makemeabear pretty much summed everything up. If you don’t want to apply to other schools that’s fine, it’s your choice, but I don’t know why’d you limit yourself just because “they’re not UCs”…
he is still in the learning process… @ilovemydog2019 if he does some research on most of the uni’s in California, he would have a different opinion than what he thinks now.
Although, in his case, he doesn’t want to take another biology course that CSU required and UC’s don’t, which is why I believe he only wants to focus on UC’s.
I believe some of us had a period of time like that where we thought “they’re not UCs”…
Although to the OG, your counselor seems right, you should have a backup plan if plan A does not work. Therefore, try to find other options around for you and plan ahead.
UC Davis is the trickiest of the TAGs. They expect full-time student status this current spring, next fall and the following spring (three semesters). If you are a PT student you need to be working about 20 hours a week and may need to show work stubs. You definitely need it signed off by the UCD TAG rep. Best option is to schedule an appt with the UCD TAG rep next time he is on your campus.
Also, TAG is way more than just GPA. You need the 60 transferable semester units, of course, and 30 need to be from a CCC and the last full year needs to be at a CCC (so don’t add even one course from elsewhere). Also, you need to fulfill the requirements as specified for your major. Both English and math courses need to be completed by next fall for Davis (it varies by campus).
You can find the TAG rules for Davis here:
https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/undergraduate/transfer/transfer-admission-guarantee/
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/tag-matrix.pdf
Here is the list to find the UCD TAG rep for your CCC. If your CCC isn’t listed, pick one that’s in your district. I would deal with the UC rep rather than the CCC advisor to get your ducks lined up just to be sure there are no glitches.

You should be fine just TAGing UCD as long as you are really on top of it.
Also — IGETC is not required to TAG, so unless your major requires it, if you’re taking last IGETC course final term and something happens and you have to withdraw, assuming all other rules are fulfilled, it will not void the TAG. Always best to save some GE for last term for this very reason.
I’m not a he. And I dont understand what’s wrong with only wanting to go to school? I mean after all I am paying for it…
There’s nothing wrong with it. It will be a risky move to full send to Davis. Consider applying to CSUs as safeties.
As long as OP has verified everything with the UCD TAG advisor in advance, it should be fine.
@Ohm888 PT student?
Part time
I’m full time. As much as I want to believe I’ll get in, I’ve read that people who applied got denied even though they had a good GPA. Now I’m just paranoid. I would go to a CSU as a last resort, so if I get denied to UCD I’ll probably have to stay an extra term. I emailed a rep but have yet to hear a response.
What happens is people do not fulfill a req of the TAG, such as both English and math completed during the fall you apply for UCD TAG. The rep can lay it all out. Plus, you can look at the rules. For UCD, the biggest issue is the full- time vs part-time status. Twelve semester units is full-time. It really will be okay if you work closely with the rep.
@Ohm888 I tagged UCD and meet all the min requirements but I am a part time student right now, looking for a job. UCD has not reached out about my status yet. Should I be worried?
You got signed off at your CCC when you submitted, right? I’m not sure how they will deal with it if you dropped a course since applying (assuming you applied as full-time). Keep in mind if your TAG is not approved, if you have a strong GPA, you probably would have gotten accepted via regular admission. I’d try and get any job ASAP so when you get accepted, assuming you changed from full to part-time, you have a job to show in case they ask. I’m not sure they’d do a deep dive into it.
Did you get the notification that your TAG was accepted in Nov?
