I’m a bit confused as to what to include in the Commonapp’s Academic Honors section. If I’ve participated in an activity at both the State and National level, should I lump that into one slot, or take up two? And can I mention placing high at a competition, even if my team didn’t win? (We placed high enough (top 10/15) that I definitely feel it’s worth mentioning).
As for honor societies- if I’m a member of multiple, should I just mention that in one slot, or only pick the most important ones and mention the rest in the Activities section?
Thank you so much in advance for you advice!
I’d like to know this too. Does Spanish Honor society count as an academic honor? Because I’m not going to use it as a spot for my activities…
Your activity sounds like an EC…? If you’ve competed at high levels I would put that in the activities section with going to nationals as an accomplishment…
There is no RIGHT way to do it.
But yes, you can definitely lump them together…e.g. Academic Honor Societies: National, Math, Spanish (colleges know that most HSs have some academic criteria that you must meet to be invited to join, so yes, it’s an academic honor); Student of the Month: Math(10,11), Language (10,11)…etc.
A “team” competition sounds more like an activity…and in the activity section you can describe your roll and indicate place.
