Using the same personal essay for application a year later?

Hello CC!

Just found this site and it seems like there's a wealth of knowledge here. Hopefully someone can answer my question.

Last year I applied to a college with very few transfer credits, as I was working towards an in-state transfer degree from a community college. I wrote what I felt to be a great essay, but was turned down because an extreme lack of credits that would transfer. I'm finishing my transfer degree soon, and now that I will have the degree completed, I'm curious if I would be able to use the same personal statement essay this time around?

I'm positive that it was my lack of credits that prevented me from getting into the school last year, as I was told this by my adviser, I just wanted to give it a try anyway. Anyone have any idea if they review a previous application when you apply again?

Thanks!

Depends on the school. I’d call them and ask if they keep old applications on file.

I was thinking about doing that, but I would wonder if they would ask me for my name…

I highly doubt it. They’ll probably just say yes or no.

In the case they do ask for your name, you don’t have to give away the fact that you’re considering resubmitting an essay. All you have to ask is, “Do you review old applications if someone’s applying a second time to your college, or do you not keep them on file?”
