USMA over night visit?

Hey guys- I'm a Cadet Candidate with a double nomination from my Senator (Barack Obama) and my local Congressman. I want nothing more than to attend USMA- like almost everyone else on here!! Have any of you guys done the overnight visit? I haven't been to USMA since like 7th grade, and thought that the overnight visit would be a great experience. I'm still worried that DODMERB might give me more problems so I've waited to try and get out their. Has anyone done it?? What is it like, and how does it compare to the actual deal? I know that you follow a plebe around and do everything that they do etc... I'm just wondering if it def worth traveling from IL to NY to do- I really hope it is!! Even if I don't end up getting in, I think it would be amazing. Anyone done this yet??

I believe to do an overnight visit you have to either have an LOA or an acceptance letter. But anyone can do a day visit. I did an overnight visit and it was great! I think it is worth it. You get to experience a lot of things like the mess hall, the barracks, and classes. The plebe you shadow gets a special thing when your there and it makes it so they can't get yelled at I think. So you won't get the complete experience of plebe life, but you do get to see almost everything that they would have to do in a normal day. Also you will be surrounded by cadets and teachers that are more than willing to answer any question you may have or help you in any way they can.

Congratulations to you! The visit is a great idea. It will give you an opportunity to see what WP is like on a normal(?) day. Please note though that you'll likely run into one or two cadets who are just a little bit negative. Don't let them get to you.

And why aren't you a Bears fan?

last year I did a regular day visit. It's only half a day, but I still got to attend 2 classes, meet cadets, and eat in the mess hall. It was informative! I guess I'm gonna do an ovenright visit later this year so I'll see how they compare.

and congrats on Obama, all I got was cop-slappin' Cynthia McKinney

Thanks guys- I wasn't aware that you had to get an LOA. Hopefully I'll get that soon enough. Can they give that to you before you pass DODMERB?? I've heard of it going both ways so I was never quite sure. Sounds like it is def worth going to!!

PS- I'm a New Jersey Nets fan because I lived in NJ (not to far away from USMA) for about 5 years. That's not to say I'm not a Bears fan though!! :)

You don't need an LOA to do an overnight visit or to receive an appointment. Stay on top of DoDMERB.

And I really meant Bulls, not Bears - even though I'm pleased to see you might just be a Bears fan. :D

Concerning the question about getting a LOA before you pass DoDMERB -- yes, one can be disqualified medically and get a LOA from WP (S got one and is currently disqualified because of braces). Of course, that "assurance" all goes away if he does not get qualified. We are definitely feeling the time crunch in this household!

^^^^^
My son was in the same situation: he had a LOA and was medically disqualified because of braces. He did receive a medical waiver from USMA; subsequently his braces were removed and he became medically qualified.

My son received his appointment in December 2006.
