I am currently a sophomore and I’m thinking about getting into the United States Naval Acadmey. They are ranked one of the greatest engineering programs of the nation and I figured this is the best way of becoming an engineer as well as serving my country. However, I’ve let my grades slip a little and wondering if a GPA average of a 3.68 would be high enough to get in. Any other advice would help.

Some of it depends on your district. Are you in a competitive district?
What classes are you taking?
What is your SAT/ACT?
Do you do sports?
What is your leadership?
Also consider ROTC…which you should be doing as a back up to USNA
So if you are from North Dakota, taking many AP classes and have 1600 SAT that GPA may be okay. If you are from Maryland, have a 1100 on your SAT, with no APs, then it won’t.
Overall, I’m in the poway unified school district in California, relatively a pretty competitive district. I have nothing lower than a B currently and am planning to take the following classes next year:
Drawing and Painting
AP English
Spanish 7-8
Photography
Physics
US history
Honors Percalc
AP Calculus
I haven’t done an SAT yet, but my current score for the PSAT was a 521 for reading and writing, and a 483 for math. I have been Varsity in Cross Country since my freshman year as well as Track and Field and am JV as a Soccer Player. Clubs I do CJSF and now am looking into (J)ROTC. I am in robotics and am trying out for President next year.
I am captain of both my Cross Country and Track and Field team (The distance group of Track and Field). One thing that I found in my research was that I need to find recommendations from my local senators or representatives? I’ll try to reach out to some people.
Thanks for the advice.
You will need to bring those standardized tests way up to have a chance. Study hard for them. See the class profile. https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/_files/documents/ClassPortrait.pdf
Alright, I’ll make sure to study hard, please, anymore advice will help
those are low SAT scores…The middle 50% was 620-720.
Your sports and leadership look good.
I would suggest also apply for Boys State or Girls State as that helps with leadership.
I would suggest that you study for the SAT over the summer. Take the SAT or ACt in the fall and keep taking it.
If you can’t afford a prep class, use Khan Academy.
Why are you taking pre calc and calc at the same time? Why not take Calc as a senior?
Go to the usna.gov website and read every menu item and every pull down.
You have to get a nomination from your senator/congressperson.

Also when I say competitive district, I mean how many other students are applying to USNA from your congressional district?
Look on your congressperson’s website and see what info they have about service academies
