@beepybeetle I’m very glad I didn’t get into West Point’s. The more I learned about West Point later on the more turned off I was by it.
Yeah christ I’m worried about pullups. I’m not terribly close to the max score they posted. I’ve got pushups down. I saw that the mile maximum is 5:20, though, and honestly who has that and is not in the Navy already or running track/cross country? So I’m starting to think the max’s are really just there to push you and actually reflect the top 10%. I need to check myself on the basketball throw. I’ve heard cupping the ball does well.
Ah yes I’ve heard about everyone getting wrecked with AP Physics. I opted out last minute and am very glad. I know there’s no escaping it at the academy, though, even for a PolSci/Chinese minor
I also found the answer to my ROTC affecting admissions question if anyone is interested. https://www.quora.com/How-common-is-it-for-attendees-of-the-U-S-Service-Academies-to-have-participated-in-JROTC
Hope to see you there! I’ll check back here when it’s closer to the date
Have you contacted your Blue & Gold Officer yet and scheduled the interview?
@CajunRouge Yeah I was so worried I ended up going out and buying a crappy p90x pull up bar :)). AP physics is wrecking everyone man. One of my crazy freaking sophomore friends (6 AP classes as a SOPHOMORE) went full headless chicken panic mode the day before the test. Priceless. But we’ve all come to accept that we’re screwed.
As for the BGO interview, not yet, still in a daze right now trying to get ROTC matters squared away now that AP and SAT subjects are finally done. My BGO is one of my district’s high school teachers so I’ve got plenty of time.
@beepybeetle Wow you’re lucky. I have yet to hear back from my BGO. He served on nuclear subs and now works for Duke Energy. He commanded the infamous USS Greenville, known for suffering 3 accidents due 3 incompetent commanders in one year. Luckily he wasn’t one of them. And yes I know all this because I Internet stalked him.
@CajunRouge Nice. I’ve snooped around and asked around as well, and I’ve heard that my BGO judges you in the first 5 minutes and then either conducts the rest of the interview with a passive-aggressive tone, or loves you and gives you a really easy interview. Her only claim to fame is that one of her kids went to USNA
My son was accepted to attend the seminar this summer. He didn’t have a stellar ACT score (25) but is captain of his baseball and football team and has a 4.0/4.0 gpa. I think what helped him is that he lives in an under represented area since we are in a small town in Texas. Personally I think we should be past looking a race for any selection process and look at the individual in his entirety.
