so when service selection comes around at USNA, and I wanted to go USMC, would i be selected into USMC, or more specifically USMC Ground, or more specifically USMC Infantry? I'm wondering how specific it gets. Also, I know that the 200 or so USMC slots always fill up, but do you have any idea how many people apply for USMA? are we talking 220 or 400?

Also, submarine officers, and really any navy officers... what do they do when they arent at sea?

While inport, you are still in charge of your division. Time is taken up by training, maintenance, personnel issues, and so on.

One of the little things they never tell you about is your "collateral duties". Sure, you may be the Communications Officer (primary billet), but you may ALSO be assigned to be one or more of any of the following:

You'd be surprised, but THOSE duties sometimes take up more time than your primary job. I seriously doubt that has changed any in 10 years. I imagine USMC is similar.

As for selecting USMC, IIRC, you select USMC Pilot, USMC NFO, or USMC Ground. Whether you do Infantry vs. Armor is a choice/decision made later (after graduation, while your IN the Corps.). Hopefully one of the current Mids will clarify. I have no idea what the selection levels are, but I hear the USMC is actually able to be selective these days (i.e. - more applicants than billets).

It says on the news release from USNA that from the class of 2006 180 men and 23 women chose Marine Corps and 1 woman chose Army. 3 women chose Air Force.
