USNA vs. USAFA vs. USMA

Could be. Heck of a time to make flight plans, though.

Anyone have any better info. (I'm brand new to all of this). Zaphod?

I did not know this, but the Pres of the Georgia USNA Parents Club told me that USNA reimburses for the initial one-way trip for Plebe to USNA and one night in hotel. And I should add, reimburses the Plebes account after the Plebe turns the receipts. So that is nice.

Profmom's info is right on the money....

the only other tidbit I could add is that in 2009* (*might have been 2008???), several candidates (I am speaking single-digits) were called during the week after I-Day to report for that year's class....not sure what happened (ie: early dropouts, failure to report or I-Day rejects)....

in any event, this was highly unusual in that it had not happened before, nor has it happened since.

There are several things to consider:

-if you accept another service academy, you are bound by that and must decline the USNA offer (actually, it will be withdrawn for you)

-if you have accepted another civilian college, you can accept a late USNA offer (no doubt losing your deposit in the process).... some folks in years past have recommended holding your "space" in the civilian program "just in case" USNA plebe summer fails to proceed as planned....

-transfers between academies is not an option- if that is the thought, you will have to reapply, offering countless explanations about this decision no doubt... and one has to wonder what the chances for another nomination will be, considering you "opted out" of one opportunity in search of another....would not want to tread down this path...

So if USNA is your first choice "academy," and if you have been offered an appointment at another service academy, then hold off as long as you can before sending in your response....but not so late that you end up exceeding the deadline for the latter, lest finding yourself without a seat anywhere!

USNA will reimburse for travel expense for plebe only... not sure about the hotel, but no doubt there will be information in your "Permit to Report" packet explaining the process in detail.

No, ma'am. I'm afraid that when it comes to this level of detail I have no information to offer. It's just been too long and I'm not actually in the loop now to know the current routine. Additionally, since I went to NAPS my experience was very different from the "standard" experience, so even then anything I could offer wouldn't be much help. Sorry. :o

"Final paperwork is due to USNA by 1 May. I don't think they do anything after this date, i.e., offer appointments."

...Yeah, I definitely got my appointment on May 23rd of my senior year

Sorry stallion-

I said I was new at this and asked for help.

No, its cool... to be blunt, that was more me just trying to brag at how late I got an appointment than trying to correct you

What year are you? That must have been exciting, though!

i'm a firstie

Congrats! What do you want to do?

I'm gonna fly

What type? Jet, helicopter?

The candidates will be traveling to USNA under official government orders. As such they are entitled to reimbursement for travel expenses to include transportation, lodging, per diem, and miscellaneous allowable expenses.

Not exactly correct. Last minutes appointments after I-Day did occur during WWII.

The Greatest Generation.

I can see that.

You'd better study your ass off, or you'll end up flying a ship.

How hard is it to get a flight slot after USNA?

Depends on your gpa, eye sight, and overall general health.

How hard would it potentially be to get a waiver for say, 20/50 and 20/60 eyes?
