apoc… how sure are you of the april 2 deadline for taking the local test? i’m busy right now preparing for the AIME, the USABO semi-final, the USNCO and State debate… whatever I can put off a little while longer will be helpful :-)

@sMITten - when are u taking the AIME? march 17 or the 31?

sorry, March 30**

I am not sure when your local section administers the local test, sMITten. The official Chemistry Olympiad website on ACS says that the local sections administer the local exams from March 1st to April 2nd. I would ask your chemistry teacher or local section coordinator when the test is administered; it might have already passed for your section, but if they haven’t administered the local exam then you can still take it. The deadline is variable depending on your region so you can’t push it back; you have to take it when your local section says so.

icecream - AIME on the 17th
apoc - my school is the only one in the local section taking the exam and pretty much i can take it whenever i feel like… just wanted to verify the dates.

Ok. Have fun studying for the exam. I’m also taking the AIME on March 17th, right after our school’s WYSE Sectionals competition (science test-taking competition). I then also have the USABO semi-final on March 18th right after the AIME. Fun stuff!

@apoc, u think u have a chance for qualifying for USAMO…or have u taken the AIME before?

I’ve got very little chance qualifying for USAMO. I’m probably going to get about 4 right on the AIME; my AMC 12A score was a 96.

This is my first time qualifying for the AIME and taking it. I’m just going to take it to get some experience and whatnot.

first time for me too…got a 109.5 this time…i wish i had a chance for USABO nationals though-- but I know that I would probably have better luck in the lottery!

Took it today & thought the test was easy.

The USNCO local exam, you mean? It was more difficult than last year’s according to my friend since he scored a 59/60 last year scored a 56ish along with me (unofficial score predictions; we don’t actually know our real scores). The national exam is far more difficult though, so that will require more prep and time to do well on it.

Yes, USNCO local exam. I did take last year’s exam though for practice on my own, and I thought that they both seemed to be of normal difficulty.

does anyone know when official score get back? and are the qualifiers posted on the website?

I don’t think qualifiers are posted on the website - only the top 20, High Honors, and Honors are posted after the national exam. I don’t even think we might get our official scores back - my friends who qualified last year didn’t find out.

I made it!!! So excited

Congrats to Apoc and iambenk! My daughter took the USNCO local exam last year and advanced to the national test, but didn’t make the top 150. She’ll find out tomorrow whether or not she advanced again this year (she thinks so based on what other students were saying afterward).

I’m just checking again as to what the last date is for the exam, as I am planning on taking it next week, but I would be really upset if I take it after the deadline…

Hey guys, I have Chemical Principles by Peter Atkins. What chapters should I absolutely know and to what depth? There are some concepts that I have not seen before, or are just way more in depth than the AP Curriculum. I want to know whether I should spend time on these concepts or move on (i.e. molecular orbital energy configurations/diagrams for heteronuclear diatomic molecules). Thanks.

Bump…
