I was notified the next day. Our local exam is small, less than 20 participants. Illinois
Just took the test yesterday due to getting back from Spring vacation. I got a bunch of the stupid math problems wrong because my AP course didn’t even teach those types of questions last year (wtf??!). I think the first 20 were hard a f but the last 10 were ok (I read a bit of orgo nomenclature and did some KhanAcademy crash course xD) and the middle felt like bleh, overall I think I got 48-55 correct? PM if anyone has also taken GL on hearing back for qualifying
@AmSherLocked Do you mean the first 6 questions or so? Those math problems are just stoichiometry for the most part.
The last 6 questions are organic chemistry. They were on the easier side this year.
I qualified with a 53. There are 3 - 5 questions that you will think you have answered correctly but you have actually not.
can anyone send me a link of carey organic chemistry?
Does anyone know approximately what percentages you need on the MC, FRQ, and lab portion respectively to make camp? Just want a target to aim for!
@1golfer1 No I meant the first half of the test was really tricky and then I died on a bunch of the later math ones :x
Also i didnt think there were “fool” questions on it…so I probably just got them wrong or had wrong idea. but then again i got the stupid silicon question wrong on last year haha
@swagswag1234: pretty sure you have to make both MC and FRQ cutoffs first to be considered for camp which means 75-85% of MC for 1st cutoff and then 60-70% of FRQ for 2nd cutoff. its out of 200 pts so you need like 150-180 to make camp. but since it got competitive i guess it’s like 170+ now haha.
what were the cutoffs last year to make top 150, top 50, etc for semis?
Is top 150 based only on part 1 does anyone know?
top 150 is only based on part 1, top 50 is based on part 1 & 2
i recommend reading through the last 2 years threads for USNCO…there is information there that would be valuable to you if you take the time to ask it here
good luck!
What score is likely to get honors or high honors. Would a 50 guarantee me this do you think?
When you qualify for the USNCO but you’re a permanent resident so you can’t take the exam ;-;
The ACS website states that legal, permanent residents can take the USNCO, but the coordinator says otherwise, so oh well -.-
@Muufeen ??? You need to call ACS directly NOW. Don’t let your coordinator stop you.
@sattake Anything in the 50s on the MC will guarantee you Honors.
Out of 100 FRQ points, around 70 should get you High Honors. The grading for this section is relatively strict, especially for the explanations.
@1golfer1 - What region(state) are you? My S qualified with 4x.
@srk2017 A competitive California section. Not sure what our cutoff was, but probably mid-40s.
!1gofer1- my S ( junior) is in a Northern California section
@srk2017 I’m SoCal.
Our section highest is 50.
@srk2017 Goes to show you how tough the test was.
LOL i got 57ez money
