*****USNCO 2018 Official Thread*****

Hey guys! It might be too early to make this but the early bird gets the worm!

I am a sophmore and I am taking AP Chemistry 1st semester and then I will found a Chemistry Olympiad club at my school. Once AP Chem is done, I will attempt to self study some orgo through Klein. In previous threads, it was suggested to read through Zumdahl and Atkins. I am very serious about this and I really want to make honors(top 150) this year. I will plan to spend about 1-2 hrs every day outside of normal AP Chemistry work.

I would really appreciate any tips from previous participants. Do you think I have a chance?

Also if you have any questions, please comment!

Is taking chemwoot from AoPs good? I dont know if I will be able to utilize it well because I have not completed AP Chem. :frowning:

Will you study by yourself, or work with a coach?

My AP Chem teacher can act as a coach…

Hi guys, may I know what books you use for local exam prep?

HI guys,

Im a junior who’s currently taking chem AP. I really like chem AP, and one of my friends who did well on ap chem and took usnco, is encouraging me to do this olympiad, and i think i want to.

i just wanted to know if its too late to do well this year? I am aiming really high (top 20 finalist) because i hope by aiming high, even if i fall a bit short, ill still be a national qualifier!

Also, are there any guides to making top 20 finalists by previous finalists?

Do we need to know everything in the Atkins/Zuhmdahl book front to back? For USABO, we need to memorize the Atkins book…

I built a website for students to prepare the USNCO, it might be helpful for you! Https://sites.google.com/view/usnco/

I heard that at the national competition, they give you a calculator that you have to use… is that true, or will be we be allowed to use our own non-programmable calculator?

I am currently a freshman, and I am very good at chem (I am taking grad classes), took orgo 2 in 6th grade. I already qualified for nationals, and I am almost certain I will get high honors, but what scores does it take for the study camp. I average ~55 on the new national exams (2016, 2017). And around 93 for the next part. But I do pretty bad on the lab, probably around 35/50. Would that be enough for the study camp?

Website states, “Only non-programmable calculators are to be used on the national exam…”

What were the cutoff scores for Honors, High Honors, and Camp the last few years?

Hello there, fellow Olympians.

Last bit of studying for Nationals. Any other resources for questions beyond previous National Exams? Looking for FRQ and MC in particular.

TY!

Hey guys just wondering.

If you’re a senior and you make camp, does that mean you have to miss out on your high school graduation? lol

Best of luck to all!

Any link for results? Honors/high honors? Seems like it is about time…

Anyone knows when the top honors and honors list come out?
