Usnco!

Yes. Get above a 51 and you will make it...and Greg B made the scientificendeavors page, I was gonna help him read some of this chapters but he hasnt replied to me lately.

Any guesses as to the raw cutoff score this year, with the expansion taken into account? Oh, how'd you find out about last year's cutoff? Was it 19/20 points??

No, last year's cutoff tells nothing about this year's (for physics), since last year there was no deduction for incorrect answers. I'd say 15 would get the job done.

robinson annulation! quick!

just a few more weeks left!

As for prep, I think I'm gonna use zumdahl for local and if i make it to nationals, start ripping through atkins :)

I'd recommend starting Atkins right now ;)

hey, how do you sign up for this?

i keep bugging the president of the science club, but she won't tell me more than: meh. it's in march. chill out.

my APchem teacher is giving us the exam; So I don't really know how to sign up if your teacher doesn't do it. Try e-mailing USNCO and asking them (their email can be found on their website).

Yes, it may be in March, but if you want to make the Camp and possibly even the team, you should start preparing much earlier. I myself have been preparing since last year, lol.

bump..........

hello. =P im just taking practice tests...there are SO MANY! yeah not doing textbook reading or anything =P

me either.....there's no time.

I will use my AP prep book though...Barron's is really good. I was looking at the USNCO exams, and barron's covers it all, basically.

oh, i haven't been procrastinating the preparing. chemistry was my first love, so i've been doing usnco and icho problems since freshman year. ^_^ it's just registering i'm worried about. (i'm new at my school now, don't know anyone)

WTH? bio was this week? I'M GOING TO KILL THAT SCIENCE CLUB PERSON.

did anyone else take the f=ma test? qualified?

Just took the local exam today, most likely got a 59.

Back2Bio

what is the qualifying score to make it to nationals?

Does it differ by state? (If so, I'm in Pennsylvania).

Should I just aim for like a 50+...or do I need a higher score?

gdi i hate how only the top two make it. my school is like. ridiculously competitive. i think you'd need a near perfect to makeit (if not a 60 :( ..)

cutoff for Pa????????

I just find it so strange that the high school science teachers do not have the time to prepare their students for Olymipads events. Taking test is a skill can be improved by practice just like SAT. If you have chance to just practice one test from previous year, you will greatly improve your chance. For USNCO, you can down load all the previous year test from the web site. It includes all the subject covers in AP chemistry. The problem for organic chemistry is usually quite esay. You just need to know isomer, naming convention, like what is ester and ether. The first run is 60 single choice problems. I just don't like USNCO only select two students from each school. It is just quite unfair for the student from very competitive school.
The second run is usually held in some local univeristy. It includes three parts. The first part is single choice, the second part is free answering session. The third part is lab. The free answering session is more difficult. The lab test is no way to prepare. You should look carefully what kind of material that they give you. It will give you some clue.
The high school teacher just too busy to prepare you to take AP test. It just does not have the time to prepare you for this thing. And there is not much recognition from school or school district.
I ask my son not to take USCNO this year because only two person from his school can go to the next round. He is the finalist last year but he did not attend the camp. He went to USPho camp instead. USCNO anounces the finalist few weeks behind USPho and USABO. It is quite dumb to do that.

USNCO local examination is tomorrow for me! Does anyone know the cutoff for Houston area?

Also I heard only scientific calcs are allowed, is this true? (i hate my TI30 :()

I just started "studying" wed by taking practice tests... I learned a lot from all the problems I got wrong (and I hoped I learned the concepts correctly...) organic compound naming is difficult
