<p>The publication of the 2009 USNWR College Rankings provides an opportunity to compare schools based on a wide variety of data points. In this and in other threads, I urge the reader to think less about the absolute rankings and more about the nature and value-added of the data point being discussed.</p>
<p>For the undergraduate enrollment data below, I think it is important to use this in order to understand how size affects the undergraduate environment that a student will encounter on his/her college's campus. Enrollment size will have an impact on classroom size, access to professors, breadth of academic options, nature and vibrancy of social life and activities/opportunities outside of the classroom, geographic diversity of other students, maybe even the cost of attendance…There is no single "best" size as different things will appeal to different people, but students should not ignore the inherent differences that result from differences in undergraduate enrollment. </p>
