USNWR 2014 predictions

With the new USNWR coming out in less than a week, I thought it would be fun to have a predictions thread. What do you think the top 30 will be? Feel free to mention any colleges, in the top 30 or not, you feel might make a notable change on the new list as well.

Copy-paste from 2013 rankings, maybe switch around 4 or 5 schools just to make it look like they’re [USNWR] doing something.

Pierre’s School Of College Rankings

Pierre’s list sounds accurate

Don’t feel like doing a whole list, but some predictions of mine.

UMiami top 40.
Vandy top 15.
Stanford top 5. (replacing Chicago)
Alabama top 70.

Pierre is making fun of schools some of which are really really good schools that he knows nothing about. While its clearly intended as a joke, and he included Clemson where he attends, its unnecessary.

We get that USNWR rankings are largely a fools errand and its full of holes and all sorts of drama associated with the new methodology. But its also a primary and PRELIMINARY method for many students, parents and counselors (despite their denials) of where they look for reach, match and safety schools. Its a blunt instrument at best.

Its entertaining as well. There will be changes again this year because of the new methodology. Often USNWR leaks the information a few days ahead and I am curious if anyone has heard anything specific and accurate about that?

Top 20 seldom makes many changes although they alternate one or two spots. Be wary of radical changes that are outside of a clear pattern for a school.

Finding the right school and type of school is most important for students, whether state or private, urban or rural or suburban, large or small, athletics dominated or academics dominated, frenzied and neurotic or laid back and reflective.

Good luck to all.

Curious about the new methodology? We already have a thread doing on it…it’s been announced.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1549318-preview-methodology-changes-2014-best-colleges-rankings.html

Pierre…entertaining list. One of the best ones I’ve seen in light of all the huffing and puffing that goes on regarding where UMich or Cal or UCLA or USC will end up…or whether H or P will be at the top, or which schools will be top 20.

“20. University Of Alaska - Fairbanks”

My alma mater is top 20! Woo hoo!!

“that he knows nothing about”

I beg to differ. At least with the better schools on the list, the reason I listed them is because I’m familiar with them in some form (applied or looked at applying there).

But seriously, it’ll be interesting to see how much the new methodology jumbles the new rankings.

I hope they give public universities more love…

Pierre, I’m impressed you know something about all of these universities. Btw, are you related to #30 Pierre’s School of College Rankings?

p.s. Did you seriously look at Bob Jones and Oral Roberts?

No I did not haha, im not that crazy to go to Bob Jones

“I hope they give public universities more love…”

It would be nice but since USNWR decided to lower the weight of the peer assessment for these new rankings it doesn’t seem plausible. The opposite seems more plausible.

The new rankings reduce the weight of peer assessment for regional colleges and universities, not for national universities or national LACs. But they had already reduced the weight of peer assessment from 25% to 15% for national schools in the last couple of rounds of rankings.

^ You are indeed correct. I read it incorrectly.
