UAA is Div 3. Ivy is Div 1-AA.

I was looking on Wikipedia and Johns Hopkins used to participate in the UAA. I love the conference nickname..."The Nerdy Nine"...lol.

Where's JHU now? I think their lax team is in the Div-1 league

But they are now under something called "championship subdivision" instead of bowl subdivision where the big boys play. Whatever the label is, they have the same schedule they had before.

Sam,

I was addressing the previous post by UCBChemEGrad who posted:

Ivy is Div 1-AA.

[/quote]

This is technically incorrect as Division I-AA no longer exists.

There are two distinctions for NCAA Division I Football:

Football Bowl Subdivision (teams that compete for bids in the BCS)

Football Championship Subdivision (where the Ivies compete)

My point was simply to correct the error that the Ivies compete in Div I-AA.

Except that the Ivy League doesn't allow any post-season play, so technically they're not even in the championship subdivision...

BIG TEN! Yeah Yeah!

No. Technically the Ivy League is a member of the Championship Subdivision.

The Ivy League and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) elect not to participate in the year-end championship tournament. Further its also incorrect to say that the the Ivy League does "not allow any post-season play". For instance in other major sports, basketball (where the Ivy champ gets an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney), hockey, lacrosse, etc. the Ivies are well represented in post season play.

So TECHNICALLY speaking for football, the Ivy League is a member of D-I Championship Subdivision. Why is this so difficult for people to understand?

A few notes, the Ivy league is Division 1 in all sports. In football they fall into what used to be called Division 1AA which just underwent a name change. In hockey they are part of the ECAC conference.

So, is this listing for all sports conferences or just football? If so, Notre Dame should be included in the Big East. They are part of the Big East for all/most sports except football. Additionally, what about other 1 off conferences, i.e. ECAC, Hockey East, etc. For example, Boston College plays hockey in the Hocky East conference since there are no other ACC schools that have a hockey program.

Might look at the Patriot League-DIV1 for all sports as is Ivy. Colgate, Holy Cross, Bucknell, Army, Navy,Lafayette all ranked in the top35 of National LAC's. Lehigh is highly ranked in National Univ, category.
