Unfortunately, the parameters for the Forbes listing are even sillier than USNWR. West Point is number one because the kids graduate fully employed with no debt (except 8 years of their lives.)

This list is neoconservatives in action.

For newby Williams parents, Williams is part of a consortium of liberal arts colleges that signed a petition speaking out against NSNWR rankings and vowed not to use them in any promotional literature or on the website (as so many colleges to.)

This push was spearheaded by Barnard College.

The peer assessment portion is particularly silly.

So, sure, be happy – we all like to be #1 (or #4), but Williams has many other things to be happy about.

BTW: I am a Williams parent very a very happy son so no dis to Williams, just to rankings.

For those just coming in, welcome. I hope your offspring have an awesome year. For students, I hope you have an assume year.

What an adventure!!! Good for you.

Williams still uses USNWR rankings to promote the college…albiet indirectly.

http://www.williams.edu/admission/after.php

However, they don’t allude to their own ranking.

They don’t need to. By mentioning USNWR, the college has brought attention to the magazine and ranking system to those who might not be aware–as if that’s possible.

I’m impressed Williams found a means to evade the agreement. ;)

^^^^^ I understand what you mean, but I don’t think the word “obfuscate” is correctly used.

Correct…I had something else on my mind… It’s changed.

And you know I adore Williams. I’m simply having a bit of fun. :)

Fyi- On the Midd thread, I also stated how idiotic it is Barnard is ranked where it is. The morons at USNWR don’t take into account the connection with Columbia and all that entails.

I agree that all schools spend time positioning themselves to look attractive to potential students, and that effort includes providing guidebooks and ranking entities with information.

The following link (which I pulled from a post on this or some other site - sorry I’m not giving proper credit) shows Williams’ responses to those businesses. Interesting and I give kudos to the school for posting them.
