*USSYP 2018-19*

This discussion is for people applying for the 2019 United States Senate Youth Program! I am from CT, and my app was due on September 15. I was just wondering when we would get back decisions regarding finalist selection? The interviews are in October (if selected), and I am getting very angsty lol! I also don’t think CT utilizes the “tests” that other states are doing! If you are from another state, please feel free to share your experience here as well! We’re all in this together!

I’m from Ohio, and I am also applying this year. We have no interview, only the test. If we are selected for a certain leadership stuff then we can apply, if we pass application (a little over 35 of us) we take the test. I’m taking the test in later October and freaking out, it’s so broad. I’m jealous that you don’t have the test. If anyone finds any good resources, please post! You’d be a lifesaver.

@collegeIZrubbish I heard that we should find out in November (but I’m not sure the credibility of that), but CT seems way different than OH, so I don’t know if the process changes the selection date, sorry.

You will not find out your results if you are the top two until sometime early in December.

For Delaware, at least the year I participated in, we had an application, civil affairs exam, and then an interview. The process is pretty intense as we narrowed it down to 40 → 8 → 2.

Good luck!

-USSYP Delegate from Delaware 2018

Just found out my daughter has been nominated and needs to take the test within the next two weeks. I am not sure why we received such late notification. Can anyone help lend a clue as to how to study for this? We are really in the dark about this. No one from her school has ever applied and the test is really soon. Thank you!

I submitted my application today. Anyone else applying from Oregon?

@TheMrFatcow how did you prepare for the test?

We find out whether or not we’re finalists on November 15th. I think they told us that there would be 4 finalists and obviously, only 2 of them would move on to delegates. Good luck to everyone.

Has anyone interviewed? I have my interview for FL on Friday //:

Has anyone heard if they were selected in the state of AL for the interview portion? I submitted everything over a month ago, but hadn’t heard anything back about being a semifinalist. Just wondering if I wasn’t chosen, or should I still have hope lol

I’m sorry! The interviews were this past Saturday

I’m from CA, and interviews are scheduled for next week. Anyone else from CA hear about their status? Fong and Carriker are not at their offices to take calls or emails right now.

Im from CA as well and I have not heard back. I know that interviews are scheduled for the week of the 26th. There is no indication of when they will notify us.

If you don’t mind me asking, what were the interviews like? They pushed back the notification date til tomorrow to find out if we get interviews so I thought I might as well ask just in case I get one.

@k1ngp1n How did you hear about your CA interview? Did they email or call?

I’m a finalist for GA (one of the top scorers on the USSYP qualifying exam for my state) and I have a 30-min phone interview early next week. I heard that it will be a lot about getting to know the candidate and their involvement in government and politics. There shouldn’t be many “hard” questions about history or politics considering the qualifying exam shows that all the finalists are competent in that area. If your state didn’t require the exam, however, I would expect to answer some detailed questions about government/politics. Good luck to everyone!

Did anyone hear from California yet? Interviews are this week and I cannot connect with either of the two coordinators.

@saintsfan101 no word from CA here. I’m assuming that means a big fat no :frowning:

Has anyone heard anything from Ohio??

I don’t think anyone has heard, I cannot get ahold of either of the two coordinators. Maybe next week. @Bridge19

Did you hear @k1ngp1n or @Wookiefam ?
