Usually..

As a senior I'm constantly asked where I want to go to college and I always say Notre Dame. But then I add, "But I know it's pretty tough to get into..." Then people always respond, "WHAT! YOU'LL TOTALLY GET IN!"

Does anyone else HATE that?? Now, if I don't get in, it's even worse...

I have different levels of classification when people ask where I am applying:

If its my friends or some random people: I just say my match/safety schools
If its extended family: I say all the schools except my #1 reach
If its my immediate family or GC only: I will say all the schools

Well I say I've gotten in to Texas and ND and those are my choices.

People usually give me the "why didn't you apply anywhere better" thing, and I point out my declining grades (thank god I left myself an amazing cushion after the first two years) and the fact that I love big-time football, and there's nowhere else I rather be.

It's going to come down to my aid and whether I can take the cold.

But yes, I did hate it when I woud say I was interested in Harvard, and everyone was like "don't worry you'll get in." People really don't understand what an accomplishment it is to get in to a top school, be it Harvard or ND.

Joe Q. Public (and especially one's relatives) has absolutely NO idea how difficult it is to get into top schools.

My S had very good stats, ...and so do thousands of other students. Yes, the "of course you'll get in, don't be silly" comments got annoying.

I love this topic.
ahh

I get asked this question all the time.

This is usually how the conversations transpires.

Random person: Hey so where are you going to school next year?
Me: Well, I really want to go to Notre Dame
RP: WOW. that would be so awesome. Its pretty tough to get into , right?
Me: ya, definitely not easy... but im hoping for good news
RP: you"ll totally get in!!! (what else would the say?)

YES. I stress out about it and talk about it so much, (guess I shouldn't do that) and everyone is always like "ALLIE. STOP. YOU'RE GOING TO GET IN"

And.... my stats are nowhere close to what they need to be.
"YOUR GREAT GRANDFATHER'S BURIED ON CAMPUS!"
- doesn't mean I'll get in! It's SOOOOO frustrating. :(

I think because I'm from the northeast, not alot of people really understand how hard and how highly selective Notre Dame is. They just think because I'm legacy I'm fine. NOPE
