Hello, I'm a senior and I'm working on my application for UT already :)

So, I just had some basic questions on the admissions process. Do they really take into account reference letters, even though they're optional? I'm trying to get in the Engineering Honors Program, so I was wondering about how many should I send.

Also, is it better to fill out an expanded resume so I can go into more detail for some of my more obscure EC's?

Also, I'd appreciate any tips on the applications process. Please? :) Thanks :D

Nice to see you getting a head start on your application.

In regards to the reference letters, you should check the EHP website to see how many you should send, but if i were you, i’d try to send at least 2. EHP is fairly competitive, so you want to do well is every category of your application.

As for your expanded resume (ER), take full advantage of this! Unlike the traditional resume, ER gives you an opportunity to list all the meaningful experiences you’ve had. Oh, and make sure that you’re focusing on quality and not quantity on your ER.
Smh at students who often put random stuff on their resume to make it longer…

I’d imagine that you did really well in HS and on your SAT, so I should mention: put heavy emphasis on your essays!

Gluck!

I hope you don’t mind if I ask my question on this thread.

For the reference letters, is there a specific form for the teacher/counselor to fill out? I looked on Be A Longhorn but couldn’t find anything.

Also, just to add on to what lackoflimits said about ERs - I visited UT last month, and the admissions person told us that although the ER is “highly recommended,” that basically means it’s mandatory.

I was invited to my local admission center for an info session and they vaguely talked about reference letters. There is nothing on the application, but my friends that applied last year said she sent two.
