UT Arlington?

Can any1 here give me a good idea on how UT Arlington compares to UT Austin? In studies, social scene, campus life?

I actually got my acceptance letter for Austin for Spring 2012 transfer, and was wondering whether to consider it or just go ahead with A&M.

Thank you!!!

I live kind of near UT Arlington, and know quite a few people who go there so I know a little bit about the school :). It’s not a bad school but I wouldn’t say it compares to UT Austin at all. Arlington isn’t a small town, but it’s not Austin. The academics aren’t bad. The social scene, however, is definitely not like UT’s. There isn’t a football team and their basketball team isn’t that good, so there isn’t that aspect when it comes to social life. UT Arlington is kind of a commuter school, so that’s also something that UT doesn’t have (at least for freshmen/sophomores…from what I see, the others don’t usually live on campus but I don’t know if that exactly qualifies for commuting?). I don’t know too much about parties, I never hear about them at UT Arlington when it comes to my friends unless they’re in a fraternity or sorority - at least, not the way I do at other nearby colleges like SMU or TCU. Not to say that there aren’t parties or anything, I just don’t hear about them like the ones I hear about/see from friends that go to the other nearby colleges I listed, or the ones that go to UT.
UT Austin is pretty much nothing like UT Arlington, IMO. A&M isn’t bad but I’d go to UT over it any day :)

Thank you for replying laurennicole.

I am not a big fan of parties or frats, and I would rather have a good time with a group of friends and not party all the time.I guess UT Austin’s for me then :)

Plus, the commuter aspect certainly does not help Arlington.

I’m not saying there aren’t parties at UT Arlington (there are definitely parties at UT, greek or not) but the only ones I see are greek. I’ve visited UT Arlington quite a bit and I honestly just didn’t like it :stuck_out_tongue: I think if you’re going for a school in the UT system that isn’t UT Austin, UT Dallas is actually a very strong option. It’s definitely a good school. The only problem with it is that it’s in Richardson (ugh) and the social scene is kinda meh. But it’s not bad, depending on what you wanna do and what you’re looking for
I’d pick UT over A&M for a lot of reasons (no offense to Aggies). Austin is a much better city than College Station, IMO (it’s not a very big city…I’m very much a city girl), they have the major I want, I like the overall atmosphere of UT far better…I just think UT is a better fit for me personally. If you really want to go to A&M, then go there, but I just find UT to be better DEPENDING on what you want to do. If you want to stay in Texas then going to A&M is definitely good, their alumni network is very strong, especially in Texas. Texas has a strong one too (hello, Texas Exes!) but A&M is…A&M, lol I don’t know how else to describe it. UT has a lot of school pride but A&M has VERY intense school pride compared to any other university I’ve seen.
