im an international student in california and i decided to stay 3rd yr at my CC since i didnt have 60 units and got rejected from UCLA and UC san diego.

imma apply to these schools again. but since i have more time, ive been thinking of applying out of states as well.
i major in communication and ive found UT have advertising major, which ive really wanted to major in!! so im thinking of applying there.

but ive heard it is a really good school and is hard to get in (especially im international).

i have 4.0 gpa.
im planning to finich up AA (i dont even know if its requirement tho..)

i didnt really do any ECs. (only thing i could say is i was on tennis team for my CC this spring and got an award for the top 12 in a conference.)
ive been thinking of getting on speech team and applying for internship/job this fall.

since i have no information about UT or advertising major (journalism and communications department), i need ur help!

what are pre-requirements for advertising major? ive been trying to find the web page that tells me the pre-req. but i havent found the page yet.. x(
what else can i do to get in there?

However, I am not sure how hard it is to be admitted to the College of Communications Advertising Major program as a transfer student. There may be very few openings for transfer students for this major. You could call the office of admissions and ask them how many outside transfer students are admitted to the advertising major each fall and each spring, to get an idea of your odds.

If you can afford the out of state tuition and you are accepted into the College of Communications, I think Texas would be a good option for you. I am not particularly familiar with the advertising major but the College of Communications has a good reputation.

midwestmom!
thank u for the information in detail! i have another question. do they have any pre-req. that i have to take in order to get into communication department? ive been looking for the information but i cant fint it…

It takes a while to learn how to navigate the UT website. There is a great deal of information there. This is what I found.

I do not believe there are any specific courses required. The page I link to at the bottom should show what is needed, if any are required. For example, on the business and engineering links, the courses are listed. Since none are listed for the communications school, I assume none are required.

However, it does state that newly admitted transfer students into the school of communications are only admitted for the fall semester.

Why would you have to retake classes? You should be able to transfer as a junior. There were no restrictions on that page concerning hours, which again there should be if it applies since it does for the business school transfers. You don’t have to do AA degree either. Just keep your GPA as high as possible.

The admissions staff is very friendly and helpful. Call them and have the peace of mind that you are getting 100% correct information.

i have another question.
my friend told me i only can transfer 45units to UT. is it true? now i have about 60units and i wanted to transfer 70units because thats how much i can transfer to university of california…

You will need 60 credits in residence at UT in order to graduate, so even if you transferred 70 it would not mean that you only needed 50 more. You can come in with 70 credits, but then you will need 60 more to graduate.
