@longhorn4: from what ive read the essays matter when your GPA is lower. It’s your chance to make up for the lower GPA by showing admissions who you really are or explaining reasons why you belong at UT. You are above the (unwritten) 3.5 automatic acceptance to COLA rule of thumb that i keep hearing about. I think you have a good shot. Good Luck!

Thanks @cherrybomb82 hopefully i get more responses so i know where i stand.

@fariasb keep me informed!! Ive been waiting for this letter for quite a while!!

Good Luck rgalvanatx! Thanks for that insight on admissions, did your huband’s friend mention what the GPA cutoffs were for the early acceptances? Like only 4.0 were in the first batch of acceptances and everyone else has to wait for all the other people’s final grades to come in? I really was hoping my 3.90 would get me an early acceptance, waiting till may is gonna be hard. I have an acceptance to St. Mary’s and need to give them a final answer by May 1st. They are my back up in case I dont get into UT.

Cherrybomb, he didn’t say a specific GPA cutoff, but with a 3.9 I’m sure you’re in it. I am thinking Communications hasn’t started making decisions yet. I haven’t heard of any other transfer folks being accepted or rejected, but I’m sure it will be soon. I wouldn’t worry about it. My GPA is only 3.5 and admissions told me that is still competitive to be accepted to Communications, so for me it’s probably more of a 50/50 chance of getting in. However, I have no doubt in my mind that they will take you. Hang in there! I know there’s nothing that can make the waiting more tolerable, so we all just have to deal! Yuck!

Just a word to the wise for everyone accepted now/in the future. I contacted UT today, and they said if we get a couple of B’s this semester they don’t really care in regards to admission. The lady told me if you got any D’s then your acceptance might be rescinded. So just don’t do TOO bad this semester after you’re initially admitted and you’re golden!

Thanks rgalvanatx, I really appreciate that. I havent read or heard any communications decisions from anyone else either. Waiting does suck but I’ll keep sending you positive thoughts, hope we both get in :)

ACCEPTED!!!

Accepted: 4/14/11
College of Liberal Arts (International Relations and Global Studies)
GPA: 3.81
Transfer Credits: 42

Accepted!: just found out!
COLA (English)
GPA: 3.79 with 62 hours

Maybe I should’ve tried for COLA as my second choice, instead of undecided, that way I wouldn’t be totally anxious XD

Congratulations to all of you accepted !!!

Same case here, cherryboom. Communications: RFTV. 3.6 gpa … My status hasn’t changed from the complete file status, but I send my complete transcript last tuesday.

Hope we start listening about communications soon !!!

Good luck to everyone !!!

Congrats, Linds and Big!

@darkRyder. Communications first choice here for Advertising. I put a specific COLA major for my second choice and still haven’t heard back. I wouldn’t have thought that communications would be the last school to start accepting.

@Moniso. Isn’t it a little late to send in your transcript? but you say you a have a complete file status, so I guess your all good somehow. Do you have the “currently reviewing your application” message?

@dark ryder thats funny I was thinking the same thing, Is your second choice undergraduate studies: undecided? Thats what I chose. When I went to visit the campus that was their recommendation to me. Good Luck Moniso and Ozzy906 Congrats Lindsbb and BigBH2011!

When you apply to UT is it only the college that your applying to that matters…or does your major within the college that you want effect their decision as well?

ACCEPTED!! just checked right now

4/14/11
First Choice Major - College of Natural Sciences (Computer Science, Entry-Level)
3.65 Transfer GPA. 3.7 GPA from Texas State University
82 hours, not sure if all transferred.

So this is way late, but to help anyone that might have doubt…
- Current College: UCLA
- Current GPA: 3.16 (2.93 at time when I applied)
- Probable GPA after Spring: 3.3
- First Choice Major / College: English/Liberal Arts
- Second Choice Major / College: Journalism
- Courses Completed: Unsure–they only count transferrable ones when deciding on admission
- Extracurricular Activities: Volunteer work at Braille Institute, Student Activities Center Intern, in Floor Government, work blood drives, IM sports, etc. In high school—Class President, Cheerleader, 4 year Varsity Tennis, Student Council President, National Honor Society Vice-President, DECA student leader, UIL, Spanish Club, Journalism, PALS, Navarro College Student Government, and part of a Youth Group.
- Letters of Recommendation: none.
- Anything Else: TX Resident

By the way guys, my GPA really is not that low since UCLA grades on an A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-,etc. scale compared to just an A,B,C,D scale like other schools. UT takes that into consideration and also recalculates your GPA based solely on the courses they will count at UT. So, when I applied they changed my 2.9 GPA to a 3.5. Although it is now higher, I never submitted an updated transcript. Thus, I got in with a 3.5. So even though their average GPA is a 3.8, I know you all can do it.

Accepted
4/14/11
First choice major–English, College of Liberal Arts
UT GPA: 3.5 and 52 transferred hours

ACCEPTED for natural sciences biology!!!
