UT Austin 2011/12 Transfer Guide

Posted another thread but didn’t get too many bites… maybe I’ll try here.

1) Current College: UTD
2) Current GPA: 3.69
3) Probable total GPA: ?
4) First Choice: Engineering (EE)
5) Second Choice: Probably undeclared
6) Courses completed: 33 hours by end of semester

Taken past semester:

 • Intro to Programming (CS1325)
 • Constitutional Foundations/Political Beginnings (GOVT2301)
 • Intro to EE
 • Differential Calc (MATH2413)
 • Oral Communications (RHET1101)
 • Intro to Digital Systems (EE2310)

7) Extracurrics: Virtually none this past semester. Mainly because of my laziness and the fact I had night classes every night and couldn’t attend meetings.
8) Recommendations: possibly one.
9) Essays: decent enough. Working on them

As far as GPA goes, you’re got a good chance. My friend is applying to Cockrell and the lady told him the average is 3.7/3.8 to get in. Are you sending in your spring grades? It’s difficult to tell because GPA and certain courses (which I assume you’re taking) are pretty much the biggest/only factor. Maybe do an honors class/EC to boost your chances?

Don’t you have to send spring grades in before they consider you? And I couldn’t find anything about specific courses I had to take other than Calculus (Differential and Integral). I’m taking Integral right now and took Differential last semester so that’s covered.

Some colleges don’t need spring grades as long as you already have all your classes. I just wasn’t sure if Engineering needed any. Yeah, just take engineering classes that TRANSFER and you should be fine. Honestly, I think you’re in. There was a guy on another thread with 80+ hours and 3.56 and got into EE. Just try to get as close to 4.0 this semester and you’ll be fine!

@JammyD What do you mean? Are you saying if they don’t have the 30 hours completed by the deadline?

) Current College: Dallas Community College
2) Current GPA: 3.51
3) Probable total GPA after Spring Semester (in May): Higher than a 3.51

6) Courses completed: After Spring Semester, 48 hours
7)Extracurricular Activities: Phi Theta Kappa Member, Working Two Jobs, Teach Swim Lessons
Recommendations: One
Essays: Great. Polished and I’m proud of myself.
8) Anything else useful: TX resident. First Generation in family to go to college. Hispanic.

@Esteef: I mean (for example) if someone applies to business and they have 30+ hours and the required classes, then they don’t need to send their spring transcript.

Basically, if you have 30+ hours by application date, you don’t have to send a transcript (straight from an admissions counselor) as long as you have that and any other prerequisite. From your stats though, you’ll be fine. Just send your transcript BEFORE June 1 and you’ll be fine.

@JammyD
Was your friend CAPed?
I’m not to worried about getting into COLA. Latin American Studies has a communications concentration, which should make an internal transfer easier if I complete those courses first.

What housing plans do you all have?

@Ozzy906: Yeah she was. I’m not sure about the housing plans off the top of my head. Go to the UT housing website OR search through this forum. There’s 1 thread that had everything you need to know about housing.

When I sent in my application, I had 32. I still need to send it in?

I don’t THINK so, but call admissions on Monday. As long as you sent the essays, resume, etc you should be fine.

What are the essay questions/prompt?

@grivacobae - [Essays | Transfer | Be a Longhorn](Essays & Short Answers – University of Texas Admissions)

Did you all fill out the EC and work history pages on ApplyTexas or do we just leave that for the resume we need to send in? Filling those out online looks like a drag.
I’ve left off the hours for each activity on my resume, because I don’t remember how much time I spent at each. Would that be alright?
And do we have to send in any test scores or a HS transcript? I didn’t see anything online, but wanted to make sure.
Thanks.
