UT Austin 2011/12 Transfer Guide

Waz cookin homiez…
Chance me por favor:
GPA: 3.83 with less than 30 hours completed
Applied to Liberal Arts: ECONOMICS
Took and taking crazy hard classes like physics, calculus, etc…
None of those silly gpa booster classes.

Question: How much do the essays matter?

And Good luck to all you home dawgz applying! Stay strong.

I sent in everything last tuesday, about how long till I hear something back?

We won’t hear anything until April. At the latest for some, May.

A 3.5 pretty much guarantees you a spot in COLA. What are all the classes you took/currently taking? Why not apply to McCombs, Mangos?

With a GPA of a 3.75, would I have a good shot at RTF or Undecided?

I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in, DarkRyder. I had a friend transfer from UTSA with a 3.8 and get into Communications. Make sure you complete any possible prerequisites/recommended courses. With a 3.5 you’re almost guaranteed admission SOMEWHERE, and I think you’re in for Communications.

I’m currently in my 4th semester at UTA, majoring in history.

I was admitted to UT as a freshman, but they offered me almost no money. UTA offered me quite a bit, so I decided to start there.

I maintained a 3.90 from Fall '09 to summer '10. So far so good, I thought. I then proceeded to have an atrocious Fall ‘10 semester (3 Bs, 2 Cs, and 0 As) which brought me down to a 3.46. Technically it’s above the average GPA for admitted COLA students (which is a 3.4 according to literature I received when I visited over the summer), but I can’t feature that it will inspire much confidence in whoever reviews my app. I wasn’t going through any personal crises, so I couldn’t really explain away the bad grades in my essays. There’s really no explanation for the bad semester other than the feeling that I’d “just do it again 'cause I had before” (kinda’ reminds you of a certain football team from this past fall, eh?)

I have fairly generic essays and ECs. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the foresight to get to know any of my professors well enough to get any letters if recommendation.

Fortunately, I’m in the UTA honors college and only have 1 B in history (if that matters at all as an undergrad). Those might help.

So whadda’ y’all think? Will I be a Maverick or a Longhorn this fall?

Didn’t get anyone replying on my own thread so ill try here.

Ok so I was in the CAP program my freshman year at UTSA. I did not meet the CAP requirements due to excessive partying and not really focusing on school. I ran out of money and decided to return home to go to cc. Currently im trying to transfer to ut again and im wondering what my chances are?

My GPA at UTSA: 2.444
My GPA at Lonestar Community College: 3.66 (I’ve made all A’s but apparently since it was the school I had my Dual Credit at they calculate those into my gpa which I had 3 B’s in from almost 3 years ago!!)
My Cumulative GPA: 3.06
My Cumulative GPA after Spring 11: 3.29

I’m also the treasurer of the accounting club here and I am currently awaiting to here whether i will be in PTK or not(this hinges on whether they take into account your GPA from other schools you have attended or just the one you are currently enrolled in.)

I’m applying to the McCombs Business School as a Finance major for my first choice and to COLA for economics as my second choice. I know I won’t get into the business school but im hoping that they will let me into COLA. Hopefully they will look at the upward trend I’ve had from adding extracurriculars to making all A’s on the last 36 hours. I know my GPA should be higher but there was no way to do so. I tried going to the dean of my school to get him to let me take more than the max load of 18 hours but he wouldn’t permit it. So be realistic. What are my chances? What should I maybe do to help them?

Would any of you happen to know if it’s possible to hand deliver your official transcripts to UT? People at my school have literally been waiting for MONTHS just for their transcripts to even be printed out, let alone sent out…

The deadline is gonna be here in a couple of days guys! Any last comments would be appreciated!

Yes, you can hand deliver your transcripts. Just be sure they are in the original sealed envelopes. Some HSs don’t like to release them to students though.

Also, you don’t have to drive to Austin to submit your docs. UT has admissions offices in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Longview, Lubbock, and Harlingen.

When you find out your decision please post!

We won’t know for a little while longer!

Anyone feel as anxious as I about the end of the deadline? After tomorrow, everything is SET.

are the decisions made on a rolling basis?

Quick question, if UT sends out decisions before it is time to send final spring transcripts, then do they even consider final transcript GPAs in their decision or is the decision based solely on the fall semester transcripts?

From what I can gather from admissions, decisions will come out in late May if you have less than 30 hours or are completing other required coursework. If you don’t fall in those categories, then you’ll find out sometime in April. It’s not really rolling as they stream out acceptances/rejections through April and May.

@fleet: On their website (somewhere, I can’t remember) it said that if there is a significant drop, then the acceptance may be recalled. If you have all the stuff already done and they accept you before you send the spring grades, (just to be safe) don’t fall from a 4.0 to a 1.7. You can probably stay within a relative range.

Do you guys think that the SAT scores are considered/important?

Don’t worry al21ii, for transfers, SAT 1,2, and high school grades are not considered. What major are you going for? Stats?

I was hoping my spring grades would give me a better chance at my first choice, but I’ll probably get accepted into my second choice since I already have over 30 hours. I’ll have to go through another application process. :(
