I’m going to try and transfer to COLA for 2012 after this semester is over… After this semester, I’ll have 15 hours and by the end of my second semester I’ll have 30. UT Admissions told me I can still transfer if i’m still in the process of getting 30 hours… Does anyone know how long it would take for them to make their decision after I submit my transcript for the 2nd semester? Should I just wait and try to transfer Spring 2012 or is Fall 2012 transfer doable for me?

I’m a freshman at UTSA and I was wondering if someone could answer some questions for me about Fall 2012 transfer admissions to McCombs.

Background: So I expected to get a 4.0 this semester but got burned pretty badly by a hardass Comp I teacher, leaving me with a 3.81. I am fairly certain I will be able to get a 4.0 next semester to bump my GPA to a 3.9 as long as I do some research on my professors beforehand (freshman mistake I guess).

So my questions are will they look at only my Fall 2011 GPA when deciding whether or not they will admit me, or will they look at both semesters? (I’m going to try to get into BHP as well). I heard somewhere that if you don’t have all four indicator courses done by the time you apply, they look at both semesters… (I’m taking Macro 101 and Calc II in the Spring). If they do only look at Fall 2011, do they really care I made a B in some BS Comp class? I made As in both the indicator courses (Micro 101 and Calc I), I assume those get more weight.

I have decent ECs.

Freshman at a 4 year university in Texas

Transferring into Jackson School of Geosciences

Current GPA: 4.0

Probable GPA at end of spring semester : 3.89

31 hours will be completed by spring deadline plus 15 hours of AP credit. (If that even matters).

Eagle Scout, joined several clubs on campus, wrestled for college team until I tore my meniscus, volunteer work as well.

Prime, I think you have a for pretty significant chance of getting in, everything looks good… How vital is extracurricular activity for transfer students? Will two or three clubs be decent?

bump. I’m hoping to transfer in the fall with 34 credits at my local cc. GPA is not too great, around a 3.5, if I get a 4.0 next semester I’ll be at around a 3.6.

I want architecture, but I probably won’t get in, so I’m thinking about not applying to that, instead applying to liberal arts, but I’m not sure what to major in(no clue & confused). What major do I have a good shot getting in to?

Freshman at CC in Texas

Transferring into Jackson School of Geosciences Fall '12

Current GPA: 3.6

Probable GPA at end of spring semester : 3.6

31 hours will be completed by spring deadline.

All of my classes are devoted toward my major and I will be on track (as a sophomore) at UT if I am to be accepted.
No extracurricular activities or community service at the moment. I work.
In HS, was in a Leadership Society for 2 years. Played Varsity sports all 4. I worked then, too.

Any insight?

bump.

Thanks

phoenix, you look solid from my perspective. I am also trying to transfer into Jackson School of Geoscience. JSG has the second lowest acceptance for transfers behind the School of Architecture. It is extremely competitive.

Awesome. I hope that is the case and that I can maintain my 3.6 or do better.
I have also heard that statistic, but I wonder how many of those applicants to JSG are “qualified” (i.e. respectable GPA and/or taking classes pertaining to major). Either way, it being one of the smallest schools at UT, it being a very good Geo school, and the fact that admitted transfer students who aren’t CAP’d are rather small in number… I can see it being pretty competitive.
And Prime, for what it’s worth, you look like a very good candidate to me.

If anyone has anymore insight, please post!

Thanks

@JammyD do you know if UT will look at summer transcript if you are applying for fall semester?

@hjlonghorns UT doesn’t consider your summer school for admission in the fall. I don’t even think they consider where you come from unless you’re out of state. They mostly look at your gpa

So I was hoping to transfer from UT Dallas to UT Austin for Fall 2012. My Fall semester GPA is a 3.466 which is a bit lower then I was hoping for. I have a fairly good amount of extra curricular activities and a job. I was wondering if someone could give me my chances of getting into either McCombs and College of Communications for Advertising. I really want to get into McCombs because my parents don’t think I should transfer if I don’t get in since I have a very nice scholarship at UTD, but I really want to go to UT. Additionally, does anyone know if second semester GPA is considered, and if my 4.0 GPA for 6 hours of community college is added into the cumulative GPA that UT Austin considers. Thanks Y’all!

My SAT score was a 1290 Math and Reading, but I’m not sure if they even consider that any more.

Hey there! I’m an OOS student at a CC looking to transfer to UT for Fall 2012. I currently have 24 credits with 15 more coming this spring. GPA is 3.875 currently and I’m trying to transfer in COLA for Economics or Philosophy.

I graduated from HS in 05 with awful grades and have been in the Army since then. Finally got my focus on education and enrolled at CC in 2010. What do you all think my chances would be considering OOS?

“Congratulations! You’ve been admitted to The University of Texas at Austin.
You’ve been accepted for admission to Chemistry, Entry-Level in the College of Natural Sciences for the Spring 2012 semester”

Im so happy right now!!! this is all i wanted for christmas!

good luck to everyone who applied…and i hope everyone is having a great winter break

Merry Christmas, Happy New Years to all

How did you manage to get accepted from UT and denied from TAMU, that just doesnt make sense to me haha. Nevertheless, you deserve it! Congratulations! was the CNS your first choice or second?

ChecksixBR

yea i know right? lol but its because i was fallowing UT’s recomended classes rather than TAMU. TAMU is really strict on the courses it wants you to take. But CNS was my first choice and i got into my first choice which is Chemistry. My other choice was Undeclared.

are you student at UT?

^ Bring up your GPA with some more As this semester. All of that other stuff isn’t as important as your GPA. The other stuff is really cool too, but UT loves GPA. You could potentially get your GPA to 3.43 which is a WHOLE lot better then a 3.14. I believe you’ll definitely get in to COLA with a 3.43. With a 3.14, I have no idea.

1) Current College: Blinn College in Bryan, TX
2) Current GPA: 3.4

4) First Choice Major/College: Communications, Advertising
5) Second Choice Major/College: General Studies or COLA
6) Courses completed: HIST2301, ENGL1301, ENGL1302, GOVT2305, GOVT2306, HIST1301, SOCI1301, ECON2301, MUSI1306, GEOG1306- Total of 31 Hours in May 2012
7)Extracurricular Activities/Recommendations/Essays: Club Swimming all throughout HS, Volunteering work, 1 Letter of recommendation by a Texas Congress Women (How much of an affect should that have?!!) & Essays for transfer are really good

Hey guys! I am hoping to transfer into UT Austin for Fall 2012 & was wondering if you guys could look at my chances… The only thing I don’t have is any math, which is because I am not very good at math, and at Blinn they wanted me to take a math course that didn’t count towards transfer hours/ or GPA. SO I decided not to do that. Is that bad? Should I take a course over the summer, & if so, wouldn’t they have already accepted or denied me?? & Also let me know what y’all think about having a letter of rec from a Congress person in Texas… A House of Rep… Please let me know what you guys think, I would REALLY appreciate it!!! Thank y’all so much!
