UT austin 2017/2018 Transfer Thread

Hi Dave. I have applied for transfer for COLA for Spring 2018 with a major in European Studies, I am:

ACC student with 49 total credit hours with a 3.02 GPA
HOWEVER, if you factor out the classes that won’t count (developmental math class) at UT I will have
37 credit hours with a gap of 3.43

I am part of PHI THETA KAPPA, I have over 30 hours of volunteer service, my essays were PHENOMENAL, and I have a great resume of leadership service. What do you think my chances are?

Did anyone get an email this morning offering them a housing contract from UT? I called housing and it turns out it was a technical mistake with the system. All offers have been retracted until admission decisions come out.

I got one. They emailed back and said it was an accident.

Do you guys think that if we didn’t get a housing email on accident then it means we didn’t get in?

I wouldn’t worry too much about getting an email because it was an accident anyway. It probably has nothing to do with decisions

Anyone heard back yet? I am an international applicant so my decision would prob be given to be around the 15th.

Last year the decisions started to come out around November 17-18 for domestic applicants, but this thread says “early November”. I guess that could mean anytime between this coming week and the week after…however after a call with admissions today I was told sometime around Dec 1 usually, with strong applicants 1 or two weeks before that so we’ll just have to see

Does anyone know when admissions actually start reviewing transfer applicants? I recently just submitted my updated transcript with my micro and macro economics 8 week course grades on October 24, so idk if they will review my application with my updated transcript or not since it was pretty late into October when I uploaded it.

No idea honestly, but I dont think they will take your updated transcript into consideration. I was going to do the same thing since I had 2 8-week courses, but whenever I was doing some research I saw that they would not let you submit new updated fall semester transcripts after the October 1 deadline/not look at those so I did not try to upload my updated one that has a higher GPA, but then again who knows really.

What’s everyones major and gpa?

I’ve applied for Human Dimensions of Organizations and i applied with 35 credits with a 3.8 Gpa. Still deciding if i want to go to UT or may go to Texas State. I’m just not real big on majoring in a liberal art especially with this undergrad being fairly new too. May go to Texas State and major in business with a focus in IT with a minor in computer science but idk though. I really don’t know what i want to do in my life honestly. May choose UT though since considering the fact that my grades in hs were no where near close to getting into UT and that i could network well here and that it’s the city of Austin. Just iffy on that major.

I totally understand where you’re coming from! I got accepted into Texas State already, so if my dreams are crushed by UT that is where I will be going. You have a great GPA so congrats to that alone! I really hope we hear back from admissions soon, I know it’ll probably be a few more weeks, but the sooner I find out the sooner I can actually plan my life and stop worrying where Im going to school and going to live blah blah blah all that stuff.

If I’m currently in micro and calc 2 is there no way I can get accepted into Econ school for the spring? I have 42 hours and a 3.76. Cola Econ was first choice and second was cola History. Do I have any chance of getting into my first or second choice major? What’s a competitive gpa for Econ ?? Will they accept me even if I’m in pre reqs? Thank you

I know for sure history you’ll get in for a fact. For Econ you’ll possible to still get in but do know that Econ and i think psychology are the most popular COLA. The average Gpa transfer for Cola is usually around a 3.5 Gpa so you should be fine. Just make sure to finish with either an A in micro or Cal

CNS was my first choice and COLA was my second choice. If I have a 3.59 gpa with 39 hours but no LORs… do I have a chance of getting in??

So I got a B in calc 1 and an A and macro. I will most likely get a B in calc 2 and am A in micro no doubt. Do you think it’s bad that I will have a B in both calc 1 and calc 2?

Also how hard would it for me to internally transfer to Econ once I got there? That’s what I want to major because I really do enjoy it. If I wasn’t able to internally transfer would it even make since to get a History degree from UT? @Gotenks16

Well considering the fact that Econ at Cola is a good popular option for students who can’t get into McCoombs, i assume it’s going to be tough and will look closely on how you did on your two Econ classes plus the calculus classes. I myself have thought about trying to transfer into Econ and then taking those business foundations classes so it’s just like a business degree at the end of the day. I would assume with UT Austin you’re going to have to make all A’s all the classes you would take there to change majors for Econ. Be prepared as if you had no chance of successfully changing majors so you can have a solid plan B just in case.

I don’t think having a B in Cal is necessary bad too. Just doesn’t help your chances that much compared to someone who has taken Cal and made A’s in those classes. History for sure should be a lock but Econ is iffy. Especially since a lot kids want to go to UT very badly and don’t want to till the fall semester when McCoombs are only taking applicants so i suspect there could be more applicants for Econ and maybe half of those people are trying to transfer to McCoombs anyway. Don’t sweat it too much @Tylergary2. We should start getting decisions soon in the next two weeks so we’ll see.

Thank you so much. I will keep you updated on what happens. I applied to a and m as well and already received my acceptance within a 2 weeks. Seems like ut likes tto take their sweet time in making decisions. One thing I’m worried about is if they decide to wait until final grades I won’t have a decision made until late December from what I read.
