UT Austin acceptance letters for non auto-admits

Does UT Austin send its acceptance letter to the school before the acceptance letter to a specific major, or do they send both at the same time?

@deluxan -In the past, they mailed out a “Gone to Texas” admissions packet after a student was accepted to a specific major. (Not with the general admission to the University). Assume it will be the same this year.

Just got accepted into Petroleum at UT Austin and I’m an out of state student! I’m so excited because of the competitiveness for this major. I was not expecting to get in.

@aaribm Congrats! Would you mind providing your stats?

@Aaribm Congratulations! Did you just check today or you actually got accepted now?

@deluxan S received his “Gone to Texas” packet after being accepted to his major. It arrived about a week after his admission to the major. In it are materials relevant to both the broader University and specific to the major.

I was Accepted last Friday(1/20/17)
To be totally honest I think that they chose me because of my very strong essay and recommendation letters. They definitely look at you as a person and not just numbers.

Sat Reading: 660
Sat Math: 750
Total: 1410
Sat Essay: 17/24
GPA: 4.0/4.0 (Sadly our school does not weigh our grades)
Rank: 43/471 (Unweighted grades)

I have taken/taking 5 engineering courses (Project Lead The Way) over my four years:
Intro to Engineering and design
Principles of Engineering
Digital electronics
Computer Integrated Manufacturing (Currently taking)
Engineering design and development (Currently taking)

I also have taken/ am taking 6 AP classes
AP Physics 1
AP Computer Science (A) 1
AP Stats
AP Calc BC (Currently taking)
AP Computer Science Principles (Currently taking)
AP Physics C (Currently taking)

I’m so happy that I got in because I think about 800-1500 students apply and about 90 get into UT Austin Petroleum Engineering.

Good Luck to others applying!

@aaribm Congrats! I applied to civil engineering and my stats are very similar to yours, thank you for providing your stats as it definitely relieved some of the stress.
