UT Austin admissions question!

Im wondering out of the students who apply to UT Austin who doesn’t get accepted? I know about 60% get rejected, but why? Is it because most of them are out of state, or because they have really low grades and not involved? I’m wondering because I’m applying and I’m curious as to why some students don’t get admitted.

75% of the spots are reserved for in-state students in the top 7/8% of their graduating class. The remaining 25% is split between holistic, out of state, and international admits. So, even if a person is well-qualified, the top 10% rule fills up three quarters of the freshman class before they’re even considered if they aren’t in the top 7/8%.

Trust me, it all depends on high school rank and gpa & SAT/ACT. My sister got rejected, and she did not have good SAT scores, average grades, but lots of extracurriculars.
