My EFC is flat-out zero, because my family's income is like 18k a year. I only have National Hispanic Scholar--which is like 2.5k a year, or so. How is UT with meeting need?

This is pretty essential information... I need to know if I'm going to live out of my car/need to get a job right now haha. I missed the UT scholarship deadline for (x) reasons...and will be relying on Need-based aid.. Baylor gave me an awesome possum financial aid offer for being such a stingy little school. A lot of the money they gave me was grant money...will that amount be the same at any Texas institution I attend?

I CAN HAS FAFSA MUNIEZ?

If you are that low UT should meet all of your need. You may have some loans, but you will likely get a lot of grants. National Hispanic is $4k frosh year and $3k the next 3 years.

Baylor isn't stingy at all, especially with URMs and with top scholars. They go all out in getting them to go there so they aren't all preppy little white Baptist girls.

UT has a much larger endowment and you will qualify for state grants if you apply for them (the FAFSA may count).

I'm not positive but missing the scholarship deadline MAY mean you don't get any National Hispanic money from UT. I'd clarify that ASAP.

I have the opposite situation...my EFC is the whole thing. But my family can't really afford to pay $25k a year on our income without really stripping our lifestyle down. I'm just hoping I get some UT scholarships because otherwise I'm going on only $4k National Merit money...they won't even let me double-count National Hispanic money!

Stereotype much?

You obviously have never been to Baylor...

It isn't a stereotype. It is literally true that 80% of their campus is white and 60% is female and 60% is Baptist.

Baylor was long the bastion of rich white Baptists in Texas. It still has that reputation. They've done a lot of work for diversity recently, but it still really is a hotbed for pretty little white Baptist girls.

I was just kidding. Yeesh! No need to get feisty.

baylor is stingy. they gave my other friend w/ pretty much higher stats than me a financial aid offer that included 5k worth of loans. her income was 21,000k. so apparently that means that you can raise the ticket price a crapload, even though it is already expensive. and not to mention, there is no infernal way i am going to go to a school that is 60% baptist!!! i'm like the epitome of blasphemy--i'm gay, atheist, and super immoral ;P

ty for reminding me about the natl. hispanic requirements...i freaked out...BUTnational hispanic is offered to you anyways as long as you met the february 1st application deadline, acc. to the award letter i got.

also, what in jesus name is a frosh? a 1st-year that is coming in as a sophomore b/c of credit?

Frosh is another word for freshman. Just a regular first-year.

Um, I'd have to agree on Baylor being stingy. They were only going to give me $10,000 a year for four years and that would only reduce my tuition to about $22,000 or something like that. Tuition for UT cost less than that WITHOUT financial aid.

It's obvious who the clear winner is.

grrll...that makes no sense...where is the o in freshman? oh engrish language, how you make me sad and confuzzled all the time. thanks for all the awesome dialog though guys. <3

Yeah Baylor would be a whole lot cheaper for me...I'd get $32,000 per year before any need based aid (I might get $5k or so there) and so I'd be paying no more than four grand a year. Plus with any grants and outside scholarships I'd probably MAKE money going to Baylor.

However, UT has many advantages Baylor doesn't. I like UT's diversity, Austin is a great location, and Plan II is a really great program, comparable to an Ivy education at a public price.

The only way I'd consider going to Baylor would be if I had applied for Baylor2. But I didn't have any interest in Baylor at all at deadline time. In hindsight, I kind of wish I had applied to Baylor, Rice, UNC, and UVa just to see if I would have received any money.

But I'm thrilled to be going to UT, and I can't wait to see if scholarship interviews will make it even cheaper (up to $23k cheaper, which would be amazing)!
