UT Austin Appeals

Does anybody know if the appeals are effective? UT is my absolute dream school…I was just rejected but I did not report a sickness that I suffered from this year that could have effected my grades and/or class rank. I also have received a Science award this year. Is it worth it? Thank you.

Search this forum. There was a guy last year who appealed successfully. I don’t remember his stats, just his tenacity.

@135pipe‌

Applied to Cockrell, 1st choice Chemical 2nd choice Mechanical. 102/1524 rank so top 6.97%. 2290 SAT: 790 Reading 740 Math 760 Writing. Officer of a couple clubs, decent volunteering, marching band all four years, and a job since 11th grade. Got “We are unable, however, to offer you admission to the first-choice major you selected on your application.” today. Does anyone know what this means in regards to second choice major?

I believe I got the same @Me251123 which was surprising because of my high stats. However, I’m not sure as I saw “We are unable to offer you admission” and I instantly hit wait-list. Do you have the wait-list option on your application? I am appealing because I had an internship at UT but I want to be sure that I was completely rejected first.

@Me251123 - son got the same. 1st choice CE, 2nd Chemistry. Don’t understand why he didn’t get at least 2nd choice. It doesn’t appear that any math or science is available for a major choice. Keep me posted if you learn anything.

@Me251123‌ and @rach98n You both sound exactly like my son. First choice was Chemical, 2nd choice was Mechanical. He was 29/495, Eagle Scout, so hundreds of volunteer hours, varsity swimmer for all 4 years, volunteer coached in the summers, also had a job the last two years, even started his High School Chemistry Club. His SAT was not the best so I figure that was his downfall, but it seems like he should have at least been considered for his 2nd major choice. It appears that admissions didn’t even consider that.

He has friends who have B’s and C’s, so lower rank, who got into Electrical. Another friend who was 10th in the class and had a perfect Math SAT who was denied Chemical. I just don’t understand UT’s reasoning. I’ve hated their admissions process from the beginning and really want him to move on because he has fantastic options, but he’s holding out hope they will consider him for Mechanical.

I put in a call to the Admissions office to see if those major choices will change at all. They promised to call me tomorrow, so I’ll keep everyone posted.

Please PM me or something @tejasgal when you find out. This is just crazy! I feel like he was punished for putting his actual first choice major. Also seeing people saying “my grades and test scores sucked but I got Chem E” . WTH is that? I also have an email into the Houston Admissions office.

I got denied entrance into electrical engineering with 2370 SAT, 800 SAT Math II, and 750 Physics SAT II. Rank 7/600 instate. I’m in a similar state of confusion here.

Denied in biomed. Ranked top 10%, 2260 SAT, 34 ACT, 780 SAT Math II, internship at UT Austin and part of UT Austin staff

I would understand if they rejected because of rank, but lower ranks got in and I’m confused. Plus I’m in IB, so that’s even more odd.

Very strange, but I wonder if they reject people with the very highest stats on the theory that they likely will not attend, so as to increase the yield.

Does anyone know how much harder it is to get into McCombs than Arts and Sciences? I just got denied from McCombs. I’m a NYC applicant, I have a 2070 SAT, 800 Math 2, 760 Chem, and 4.0 GPA with the most rigorous schedule in my school. Meanwhile, one of my classmates just got into the regular Arts and Sciences college with no APs and a 19 something SAT. We’re both white males. Thanks.

Can anyone help me with the appeal process?

Have you read this?

http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/appeals

So I don’t need to send my letters of rec again right?

@ggillen‌ … McCombs is one of the most difficult to get into. I believe the top 3 in terms of difficulty to get into are:
McCombs
Computer Science
Chemical Engineering

So can you appeal a denial from a major, or just a denial from the university as a whole?

@Lizardly‌ @Me251123‌ @snowchocolate‌ @tejasgal‌ @lenny2‌ My stats
SAT-2140 (M-800, CR-720, W-620)
SAT2 - Maths2-800 Physics-800
Class Rank - 1/428
International student
Excellent EC’s - National level awards and stuff

Unbelievable. Got REJECTED from Cockrell for Computer Engineering. Kid with much, much lower stats got in. Should I send a letter of recommendation or something and appeal the decision? Is the any chance that an appeal might be successful?

Also I did not upload a resume. Should I do so if I appeal? And what to mention in a resume?

should i send my ap scores and sat subject test scores for my appeal process?

@snowchocolate‌ can you post your stats? Which major choices did you choose and can you post a screenshot of mystatus? Thanks!
