So I am in the top 2% of my class, and if i manage to maintain this status at the end of my senior year, does that mean I qualify for automatic admission to any Texas Universities?
And one more question...
When I send in my transcript in the beginning of senior year, and if UT asks for my midyear report and my rank starts to slink a bit, or my grades start to degenerate, will my automatic admit be revoked or rescinded?
I am just wondering because of this dilemma with the automatic admission.

As far as I know Texas schools don’t ask for mid year report.

I believe UT will be top 7% for your year.

Your Senior year matters, but for rank, it doesn’t. Rank at the end of your Junior year is the determining rank for auto admission. Be sure to apply (you still have to fill out the ApplyTexas) and make sure you apply on time. Failure to do so will void your auto-admit status.

Also, take the application seriously. Make sure your essays and test scores are as strong as possible. An automatic admission to the university does not mean a guaranteed admission to the major of your choice.

Also keep in mind that the auto-admit rule only applies to Texas PUBLIC universities. You have to get into private institutions by your own merit.

I will pretty much quote an e-mail I got from them about rescinded/revoking automatic admission:

“We do not rescind admission to those who drop out of the top 8%. By the time we receive the final high school transcript students will be too far into the enrollment process. We can rescind someone’s admission if they fail to graduate from high school though.”

Thanks guys. I feel that I have more hope now. I plan on just applying either to the college of natural sciences, or undergraduate studies.

@collegeshopping Your remarks about the Admissions Office taking the Junior year’s ranking are not true. I was top 8% at the end of my Junior year, two higher ranked kids transferred in my class during the summer, and boom, there went my automatic admission (I dropped to 8.3%). Although, I’ve moved back into the top 8% of my class (after I sent in my transcripts a while back, -.-), so I’m not sure if they take updated transcripts for automatic admission decisions.

UT uses your rank as of the FALL of your senior year…which means your GPA till the end of your Junior Year. It depends on each school itself in terms of when they compile the ranks, so in the event that someone transfers to your school and you drop, well that’s your school’s procedure. While I’m no expert on admissions, I highly doubt you can send a mid-year transcript to UT in order to claim automatic admission because in some scenarios, UT’s offering twice as many automatic admissions per high school. For example, let’s say 10 people received automatic admission to UT for being in the top 8%. Then after the first semester of senior year, 3 drop out of the top 8% and 3 new kids enter. The three kids who dropped from the top 8% were already offered the automatic admission.

Just my two cents…

I think UT just uses the rank from when you send them. The earliest you can send them is after Junior year. If you are an automatic after Junior year, then SEND YOUR TRANSCRIPT before any one moves in or you start senior year. They don’t ask for updated transcripts during the application process.

Applying early matters too. There was a person in another thread who mentioned that he/she applied on August 2nd and was not in top 8% and was even admitted to honors dept of his/her choice.

Here is the link.

Does the automatic admit only work for public school students or do private school students qualify too?

It applies to Texas schools across board.

What does your SAT score have to be to qualify for auto-admit ? Will a person with (lets say) 1600 SAT get in if he/she is in the top 7% ?

There is no SAT score requirement for automatic admits.

You do have to remember the admission does not guarantee a seat in a major. Many of the majors are quite competitive and this is where your scores play a role along with the actual rank.

SAT and ********* are not related. If you are in the top percentage (whatever level is decided), you will be admitted.
