ut-austin business honors full ride or rice?

uh my mom is freaking out because i got a full ride to UT business honors and want to turn it down for rice (or georgetown...haven't decided yet). any advice as to why i should choose rice over this deal? rice is offering me some merit money and fin aid...but the ut deal is WAY better

please help!

well, if you can pay for rice w/o a problem financially then take Rice... if it involves loans and this and that, then take UTA.. UTA is a good place too

How much is Rice offering you? I would take Rice over UT.

If you want get a job right after your bachelor's dgree, go to UT-Austin. A BBA from UT-Austin is much more marketable than a liberal arts degree from Rice. Rice does not offer a BBA.

If you want to go on to grad school after your bachelor's degree, it won't matter much whether you go to Rice or UT.

I think you guys are crazy...this is a no brainer to go to UT. BHP is one of the best business programs you can have in the country...and for free?

Rice is good....but i don't think it's even in comparison to such a case.

well, Rice is ranked way ahead and is a better college overall...

How can Rice be ranked way ahead of the UT business honors? Rice doesn't even have an undergraduate business program.

An important objective of going college is to prepare you to go out into the world and make a living. UT business honors will do a better job of preparing you for that than Rice will.

"and is a better college overall..."

I meant the college as a whole, not the department. Well, I agree witht he fact that rice doesnt have a business program but the experience with such a low syudent to faculty ratio will be better... thats what I meant

the student to faculty ration is true in some senses, the core/more popular classes will have up to 200+ people, but when you start focusing on classes specific to your major you will have a class of 10-15 people.

You can find class sizes online at Rice. http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~reg/forms/Enrollment_SP.PDF (This isn't the compiled info - just the actual number of students who enrolled in each class.) I didn's see any 200s, and most 'capped" at 100 had about 18-20 in them.

thanks anxiousmom.... also, the freshman size is 700 odd students across all the schools then 200 in one class seems improbable...

UT honors programs are very good. If they are giving you a full ride, I would take it....

Antarius...rankings definitly should not be the deciding factor as to where anyone spends the next four years - in my opinion too many people use rankings as a large factor in deciding where to go.

i agree that they shouldnt be.. but there is some truth in them. Choosing between Rank 17 and rank 21 is not sensible. But rice is 17 and UTA is 52... thats a big difference. Rankings work for macroscopic differences like that...

Macroscopic...

what about it jakpot?

a bizarre application. Is the definition correct? maybe. I'm struggling with the connotations...

Macroscopic: Visible to the naked eye, as opposed to Microscopic, which means so small as to be invisible or indistinct without the use of a microscope.

I mean, its a big difference basically. And it is applicable here unless Im much mistaken

There are approximately 2000 colleges and universities in the U.S. In that context, the difference between #17 and #52 is not a huge difference. Both Rice and UT are in the top 2.5%.

If g-izzle wants to major in business, UT has a highly regarded undergraduate business program - Rice doesn't have an undergraduate business program. That's a huge difference.

I agree. Also a full ride is not something to sneeze at. Austin is wonderful (I live here!) and if you are in honors, UT is fantastic as well. Ranked 52 is UT, but honors is rather much better...
