UT Austin-CAP or Austin College

I don't think the majority of CC has heard of Austin College (or even UT) but I'll give it a try... for CAP, I have to go to a satellite campus (UT Arlington) for a year before I can go to UT Austin. Austin College is in the middle of nowhere (Sherman) and is famous for their pre-med program, but I want to go to law school and learn Chinese (which they don't offer anymore).

Honestly these are looking pretty even. I can live on-campus for both of them, and my boyfriend is going to UT... Which school would be a better fit? I'm interested in international relations, gender studies, and Asian studies. I'd really like a more liberal campus.

Don't worry about what your boyfriend does - that is no way to make a decision about college. Honestly, your interests are rather diverse and specific so I think UT would be a better fit, with the wide array of class options and majors (the course schedule is over 300 pages long). Why would you go to a college that doesn't even have your major (Chinese)? Austin is a hell of a lot more fun than Sherman too. UT is rather liberal too.

No, going to college with my boyfriend/friends was never a consideration until a few weeks ago. I got into Smith College, which I reaaalllly want to go to but my parents just outright refused to let me go. So knowing people at UT will just a be side benefit.

Austin College doesn't have an extensive course listing at all but I like the quality of their faculty. I have no idea what kind of faculty UT has-- unaccessible, as common in large research universities?

My dilemna is really if it's worth locking myself in Arlington to go to UT, or whether I should stay at Austin College for a year and then transfer to UT or somewhere else anyway...

If you are a proactive student, wanting to seek out your education rather than having it be handed to you, then UT is the place for you. I can't imagine someone considering UT and AC.

Many (most?) students are not pre-med at Austin College, including a number of pre-law students. If UT-Austin is your goal, then I would go to Arlington for a year where you have a guaranteed transfer. Austin College is not particularly strong in your interests and I don't know how committed you are to those possible majors, but it is strong in the sciences and humanities.

UT...

Austin College is REALLY expensive. I would choose UT because it offers every known subject out there, and it very cheap, when tuitions are compared.
