I am considering going into the CAP program at UTSA. However, I am concerned for when I get to UT Austin the following year. Is it hard to make friends after coming to UT after not being there your freshman year? Also, the CAP program provides you automatic admittance to UT Austin at the school of Liberal Arts, but what if that is not the school you want to go into? What if you apply to the College of Communications or College of Science and you are not admitted? Will I have to stay another year at UTSA? Will I end up having to stay in college for 5 years instead of 4?
CAP is actually a very bad idea. I would highly advise against it. The real problem is getting into an employable major like business, which has a 10% acceptance rate even with a near 4.0. It’s the same with engineering, computers, and nursing. It’s a complete setup for failure. You won’t be doing yourself any favors getting a liberal arts degree, even if it comes from UT. Most CAP students end up staying at UTSA, because it’s actually a really good school with a lot of school spirit.
Have you already accepted the agreement? If not, I’d hate to be the one that tells you the news, but UTSA has filled up already. I think that a lot of the other schools are still available though. I don’t think that it’ll be hard to make friends. I have talked to a few former CAP students and they have told me that they made friends with other CAP students before they transferred. When they got to UT, they already had a group. As far as getting into something that isn’t LA, I’d call and ask the UTSA CAP advisor your specific questions.
