I'm pretty sure I won't be getting into UT Austin with that top 8% rule now. So I was wondering how do I get CAP'd? Do they select only a certain amount of students with a certain SAT or ACT score and GPA/Rank? Or do they just CAP everyone who isn't accepted?

And I was thinking about going to UTSA for it. Good choice?

They CAP those who they feel are qualified. And I’m not sure. I’ve heard that UTSA is hard when it comes to transferring in the end because many don’t keep up with their GPA. I heard it wasn’t that great of a school compared to UH, college experience wise.

First off, make sure if the CAP program is still available. I heard (just rumors) that the CAP program will not be available for next year, so you might want to check that out.

My brother was in CAP, and if my memory does not fail me, those who are not accepted into UT Austin, for example, are “capped” one year based on their how qualified they are. They look on everything–SAT scores, GPA, extracurricular, essays, etc.

I would think twice before going to UTSA. First, the school sucks, and it’s not even ranked, so you might want to consider that in case you don’t make it and get stuck there. Second, the tuition expenses; for example, is it better to stay at UTEP, your current city, which also has a CAP program, or go to UTSA, and pay more money? Think of that, too. Third, consider visiting campus; if you don’t feel comfortable there, you might not perform as expected. In addition, if you plan to go to UTSA to party, because it’s “easier” to get the expected GPA, or because some friends are going there, don’t. Consider and look back on why you got into CAP in the first place.

I hope you make the best and smartest decision. Good luck!
